Pepper lets me know when she wants a bath, and this time I was prepared! Here she is being all adorable <3 This is the second take, because the first one became all blurry because I sprayed the camera on accident

I also think Lucy and Pepper look very similar!! I actually don't dry her off, I put her on tip of her cage with a small heater so it's nice an warm and she cleans and dries off on her own

Just a little heater you would use to heat up a single room You can pick one up at Walmart for $20 if that. It saves turning up the heat in the entire house.

Thank you! I wish she wanted to go in the shower stream with me but she doesn't really care for that all that much. Still, it's nice to have ONE bird that likes to bathe! Whisper and Bubbles haven't taken baths yet other then when I had to give them ones because they had banana stuck all over their face and they weren't cleaning it off (to this day Bubbles has some ruffled feathers because of the darn banana)

So sweet!!! I'd love to make a video of Pirate bathing but he showers with me so I'm not sure it could be appropriate XD

Sarah, do you have one of those bird shower perches that have a suction cup at the end? There is one for like $35 at Petco but I'm trying to think of another way to rig up a perch for her. When I have Pepper on my hand in the shower she tries very hard to get on my shoulder and when she does she either slips or I get her claws scratching on my shoulders

No, I just hold Pirate on my hand. It took a few tries and a few scratches to make him learn that my shoulder doesn't work. If you want to have Pepper on your shoulder and not get scratched, then you should put a washcloth over your shoulder while you are working with her

Wow I can't even believe I didn't think about that haha! How do I get her comfortable with the idea of the shower stream instead of a water bottle spray?

I got Pirate interested just by letting him watch me shower and really acting like I was having a blast. It would look silly if anyone but your bird could see you, but after a few tries, she will want in on the fun She just needs to know its safe, and that its quality time she can be spending with you It also helps to leave the door or curtain at least half open the first few times. It helps your bird to not feel trapped at all.

But Sarah, what do you do with Pirate when it's time for you to wash and shampoo? Doesn't holding him kinda handicap you?

He has his bath before me, while I just enjoy the warm water. When he is soaked to the skin or becoming restless, I put him up on the curtain rod to dry himself and preen, usually sitting on a towel. I then wash myself and make sure not to have any traces of soap left on me before I touch him again. It's important to avoid getting any soap on your bird - it will lead to a very sore tummy when they clean their feathers with their mouth, not to mention their delicate skin can become irritated by our soaps.

So my next question is, how do you stop Pirate from hopping back onto you and getting soapy?
