Oh Sarah, that tank is beautiful and so are your fish. I really want a divided tank with two betas in my kitchen. The types of betas I want though are $16 and up at a special pet shop an hour away. I'll have it one day!

Most bettas that cost around 4 bucks are one or two tone veil tails: what people usually think of when they imagine bettas. But there are hundreds of varieties: rare colors like black, purple, cellophane and pink, and dozens of different tail shapes: Delta, Superdelta, Crown tail, Twin tail, Placats, Halfmoons, and Roses just to name a few. As if that weren't enough, there are other rare mutations like king, elephant ear and dragon scale. Even then, there are coloration pattern mutations! Cambodian, butterfly, marble, piebald, mutlicolor! The more rare mutations and the more aesthetically pleasing the fish, the more the price goes up. Some competition fish are worth a kings ransom to the right buyer.

Yep Sarah, I don't know TOO much but I recognize 'elephant ear'. I am interested in a marble now. I didn't know the cool fact about their DNA changing constantly.

They are both gorgeous, Sarah! I keep one male Betta in my big community. He does very well. In the past, I have also kept several females. I loved having them, and would like to do that again. Unfortunately, bettas don't tend to live much longer than two years, including the time they were with their breeder and then the store.
