Hello, I recently brought 3 budgies. One is in a separate cage and 2 in the other. (Reason for this is that they are presents the single one is going to my nan and the other 2 are going to my mum but that's a month away when they leave) in the mean time I want to get them hand tame. They are very young when I got them had been out of the nest for 2 weeks. They came from a breeder who has them out in the aviary. I've tried to sex them but I don't think I'm right! Anyway back to the point. The 2 budgies that are in together are coming along really well eating from my hand and will step onto my finger. One of them will actually stay on my finger whilst I bring my hand out of the cage and then will stay on for 5 mins then fly around but I have to get her on my finger to put her back in her cage as she will not fly to it. My problem is the budgie that's in the cage on its own is very skatty and scared. At first it would let me put my hand in the cage and stroke it but now it will do anything to get away from my hand flys off so I can't get near it is the problem that it's being "skatty" as it wants to get in the other cage with other budgies? As it seems like it really wants too? Could that cause it from wanting to get away from me? I was thinking of putting one cage in the living room and keep the other in my bedroom. If so should I put the singleton in the living room so it's away from the others plus it's in with the family? Sorry for the essay!

Welcome to our forum! I think you may have more success by keeping the cages in separate rooms. It may be that the singleton is distracted by the other birds. It sounds like you are doing very well with the two birds in the single cage. Keep in mind that individual birds vary in how quickly they can be tamed. Let us know how it's going.

Welcome! Yours is a different situation than most, since you plan to gift all of the birds. You wondered whether the three should be put in together, but since they are going to separate homes next month,I'd advise against that. You wouldn't want them to make friends and then have to lose one another.
Do you have any birds of your own, or do you plan to get some for yourself to keep?
If you post some nice, clear pictures of the budgeis' faces, we can help you determine their genders. Try to get natural daylight pics if you can, without the use of the flash.

It sounds like you're going about the right way taming them. Just be gentle, slow and patient. Like Pammy said, if you get clear pictures of their cere(nose), we can certainly help you sex them! Welcome to the forum.

Thanks guys. I actually haven't got any myself but since having them I have fallen in love! They are so sweet and funny the singleton will hang upside down and get some weird positions! I will probably get one or 2 myself after these guys go. Which cage should I bring in the other room? I was thinking the singleton as he can get used to us more. Has anyone got any tips on hand training? I want to make sure I'm doing everything right, I'm scared I will end up scaring them and they die from shock! Where you tell what sex they are (I thinks it called cere) all of them are pink some tiny bits of blue but white also. One has a lot of white around the nostrils but still pinky blue. I will take some now. How do I upload them? I can't seen a button for attachment?

If you look under "Forum Help" on the HOME page, you will see a thread entitled "How to post pictures" in which Emily gives exact instructions on how to post pictures.
As for the ceres -- on babies, if the cere is a deep pinky purple, nice and smooth, uniform color all over, you've got yourself a little boy. If the color is more of a milky light blue with very definite white rings around the nostrils, it's a baby girl.

Awesome thanks I will take pictures of the other two tomorrow to find out the sexes as it's night time here now and I don't think I will be able to get a good picture. Since I have had him in the other room he has calmed down a lot

Sonny is a perfectly gorgeous little man! Such a sweet buttercream color. I'm thinking maybe it will be hard giving him up. Do the recipients of these live birdie gifts know you are giving them budgies?

He is lovely! Just remember to go a little slow at first with the one who is on his own. He doesn't have a companion to comfort him through his fear and his adjustment time will take much longer. I would spend much more time sitting by his cage and talking to him than trying to handle him for the next few days, and then move on to tempting him with treats.

He is a beauty when he opens his wings it's a lovely bright blue. I chose him for my nan to brighten up her life which is the reason I called him sonny. (She doesn't know but she's always wanted one, she had a mcaw a few years ago but he died of old age) my mum knows about her 2 but my dad doesn't nor does my little brother but I know they will love them! All day today they have been chirping to each other even louder and more so now Sonny is in the living room I think he wants to be with them! I have just been in the other room with the 2. They were happily sat on my hand whilst eating there treat! That was a 15 min training session I'm now back in the living room with sonny but he is freaking out big time! I am just going to hold my hand in there whilst watching tv so he can get used to that.. I will upload the other pictures of the 2 now for you to see and tell me which sex they are
