Got our new baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We all think it is a boy and so did the lady at the shop who trimmed his wings. I don't know how to post a picture, but we will if you let us know how. My daughter named him Kili from The Hobbit. He escaped from my daughter's hand and flew all over the breeder's house and up the stairs. She was down with him shortly . Her birds were beautiful and the each hopped on her finger one at a time for introductions. She has held the babies each night while she watches tv. Poor Kili sat on his perch and did not move this afternoon. We got him home around dark. He came from a house with lots of keets to a house with none! Hopefully he perks up tomorrow!

If you go to the HOME page of our forum and scroll down to the third choice, you will see "Forum Help." Click that, and then choose "How to post pictures in a thread." Emily has provided step-by-step instructions on how to show us pictures of your baby. Can't wait to see him!
Don't worry about him being so still and quiet this first night. This is very normal behavior. You will see him come around soon. Being that he is a hand tamed baby, you will want to get right on with gently touching him tomorrow and everyday. I know you don't want him reverting back to wild. Talk to him lots, and especially when you are trying to catch him, so he won't mistake your actions for sneaking up on him as a predator would. I'm very excited and happy for you and your daughter!

Hi Pammy. I added a picture. Not a very good one as it was through the bars. But we will get better ones later! Gail
Also, Kili has not eaten since we picked him up at 2pm yesterday. I gave him some water on my finger. I worry about him not eating or drinking yet. We put in a millet spray this morning, a nutriberry in his seed dish, and hung some wet lettus... any suggestions?

Be patient. He will eat and drink when he is comfortable doing so, and chances are likely that he is snatching tiny sips of water when you aren't looking. This is very normal and common behavior for a new bird. Just don't let him stew for too long, being that he is hand tamed. Get right on with helping him feel comfortable in your hands. You don't want to undo his babyhood taming, and tame birds can absolutely revert back to wild when not handled everyday.
What an adorable, darling little cutie!!! I look forward to lots more pictures.

I think we all worry when we get a new bird if they are drinking, but in a few days you will catch Kili drinking

It's so true! I always tell others not to worry, but when I got my own new babies, oh boy did I worry when I didn't see them drinking. Now they all drink plenty.

I have gotten 4 budgies from PetSmart, one I took back because of behavior and 1 died withing a month of getting her. the first bird we got from there we've had almost 1 1/4 years and she is fine. I would recommend checking out Kahoots if you don't get a bird from a breeder. Their birds have clipped wings, come from the same breeder, and are handled daily. We got our last budgie from them, and are so much more pleased with how quickly it is adjusting and likes people.
