Chace, I know that it feels like we are ganging up on you and trying to talk you out of getting a cockatiel. Please know that we have grown to really like you and care about you. We're trying to help you make a good decision for your pets and for yourself. I think Santa's suggestion to pretend you have a cockatiel, and do all the fiddling around with weekend rides and taking the bus, and hang around where the bird cage would be, and see if it's really something you and your parents want to do, basically for the remainder of your childhood, or whether it's just a big pain in the butt for everybody. I'm going to tell you what my fear is in this situation. I'm afraid your cockatiel will be lonely for you when you are at school, and at your dad's and eventually at work, and he will scream his head off, wanting you to come. This won't workout so well for your mom, and she may be compelled to make a decision that is painful for everybody involved, especially the cockatiel - meaning she may find herself needing to find him a new home. Nobody wants that to happen.
None of us want to shoot down your ideas or accuse you of not thinking things thru. We just have some experience under our belts, and don't want you to acquire animals you have a hard time caring for, through no fault of your own. So you have two wonderful budgies, and you said you are getting a gecko for Christmas. That's great! Why not enjoy those little guys for now, and tuck plans for a cockatiel into your plans for the future, when you can live in the same home as your bird everyday.

Wow! How did it work out with your Mom's cockatiel? It sounds like you may have some animal lovers in your family. Is that true? Did you get a chance to watch the videos? I think they are really cool, esp. the second one!

Aww, a hamster. So cute! You're a lucky boy to have so many animals.
I am encouraged to hear that your mom had a cockatiel. Is she interested in being really involved with another cockatiel?

Yeah, if your mom wanted another cockatiel as well as you, she could play with it when you could not!

So did you talk with your mom? What are her feelings on getting a cockatiel and being really involved in its life?
