Oh my! What a gorgeous, gorgeous animal! Wow! I can see why he is $12,000. But I don't know anyone who could afford to pay that price tag.
Diana, I agree with you that this is not the time to bring in a second cockatiel. You really are making steady progress with Emma, and my guess is that it would come to a screeching halt if you brought in a hand tamed baby, or any other cockatiel at this point.
My budgies have become more wild again since Mistletoe joined us. Of course my kids aren't constantly catching one (by force) now that they're back to school. Kringle actually did get on my shoulder for his morning millet today for the first time since Christmas Day (the females got here the 26th). I am VERY happy he did, but other than this one instance, there has been a general backslide in tameness of the budgies. Kringle and Claus will nibble treats from my fingers. Noel & December back away in fright. The girls will still spend time with my kids if they are forcibly caught after a hearty chase, but they really just want to get back to the cage. The best time to catch a girl budgie is when one of them jumps out onto the floor. Then even Natey can nab December. I'm super surprised she lets him hold her. She must be able to sense that he's a baby, and cuts him real slack. He is very gentle and kind with her. Mistletoe has not caused anybudgie to be more tame, but I'm still hoping that might change when (and if) the day comes that he moves into the budgie cage for good.
I'm still very happy with my beautiful little budgies, and thoroughly enjoy watching them interact one with another, while I cuddle my special boy on my neck, but in a perfect world, the four budgies would want to be scratched and snuggled, too - or at least enjoy finger and shoulder perching. Okay, all of that was a roundabout way of saying I agree that you shouldn't be tempted to get a second cockatiel at this time, Diana. I have to stop now, too. Five birds. If any of you hear me musing about bringing in another bird, call me on it!
