Sigh.
Piper has decided that Emma is HIS. He gets upset when she spends time with me. If I can get her onto my arm, he screeches and then flies over to chase her off. Then, they both land on the top of the cage and he lectures her about her behavior, following her back and forth over the cage top, screeching at her. I think he is in adolescence, Big Time, but longer nights don't seem to be helping with his behavior.
It seems I am going to have to separate them (Sigh).
So, it will be back to two cages, which ISN'T what I wanted.
I have been thinking about what to do. My first thought was to put Emma back into the smaller cage, and just not let the budgies out when she is out. She could function in the smaller cage, because I would allow her out most of the day.
But, then I got to thinking that, because Piper is the problem, perhaps HE should go into the smaller cage. There really doesn't seem to be a problem between Emma and Snowy. Snowy seems like a rather peaceful, mellow little guy. So, perhaps I could have Emma and Snowy share the big cage, and they both could have lots of out of cage time.
Then, I got to thinking, perhaps I should rehome Piper. I guess that sounds a bit drastic, but as things are, he's not going to get much out of cage time. Perhaps he would be happier in another home. I mean, at this moment, i think he is happy with his current situation, but I am not.
I have gone back and forth about this in my mind over the last couple of hours. Right now, Piper is alone in the big cage, making lots of noise. The doors are closed, and Snowy and Emma are having a rest on top of the cage. It was hard getting him away from Emma. Now that I have succeeded, I need to decide what to do. If I want to move Piper to the smaller cage, I am probably going to need to capture him. Or, perhaps some millet will work.
