Regarding clicker trainer, I have used it with my dogs. The reason, with dogs anyway, that it is effective is that you mark the behavior you want at the precise moment it happens. For example as soon as the dog sits, you click. They are trained to know they get a treat when you click and they figure out the behavior you want is when they hear the clicker. Without the clicker they sit and getting the treat without the clicker may be when they are actually doing something different, like standing up again to get the treat your are taking out of your pocket. So to summarize the click happens at the exact time they do the wanted behavior, not moments after. It is very fun and successful for trick training In The doggy world and my dogs love it when the clicker comes out. They will start performing every trick they know trying to figure out what behavior will get the reward. You are not suppose to give a word name for a trick until they are doing whatever trick or behavior you want consistently. Clicker training came about with someone who trained dolphins and they wrote a book about the method.

Hi, Roxhum. Thank you for the Great Explanation of clicker training's effectiveness! I am actually reading "Reaching the Animal Mind," by the dolphin trainer. You have inspired me to be more consistent with the clicker with Emma. Thank you!
