Silver has a tendency to get a primary wing feather in an awkward position from time to time. I don't know why that is. This happens maybe once a month or every six weeks. This doesn't ever happen to Emma or to my budgies.
Anyway, this afternoon he had a feather sticking out at a ninety degree angle from his wing. It looked like it was bothering him. He kept trying to adjust the wing, but couldn't get the feather into a comfortable place.
I tried giving the feather a slight tug, but he winced, so I stopped. He then tried several times to pull it out with his beak, but stopped because it apparently hurt. There seemed to be a little bit of blood under the wing. However, the feather really didn't look like a blood feather.
So, I got a pair of sharp scissors, asked him to step up, then cradled him on his back in my hand, with my fingers on either side of his neck, like I've seem in pictures. He squirmed and briefly tried (just a little) to bite my fingers, but not hard at all. Then, he settled down. I took the scissors and cut the feather reasonably short, and let him go. He ran up my arm to my shoulder and STAYED THERE! He didn't seem upset with me at all! I'm watching the wing, But he seems comfortable and I am not seeing any blood. I sang his little nursery rhyme to him and talked to him, telling him how good he was.
It's five minutes later, and he is still on my shoulder.
I'm just SO happy with this little guy.

That sounds so sweet! I'm so glad about your bond with Silver. I haven't seen anything like that with Lucy (the sideways feather) but I'm sure it is nothing to worry about and it sounds like you did just the right thing!
