I had tried to tape it, I left it there for maybe an hour and when I checked back she was laying on the two healthy ones and left the one with the hole in the corner away from her so I threw it out Thank you for your support I really do need it today! Monday is a new day, hopefully she will lay another otherwise I will feel so awful.

Aww, don't be hard on yourself. You didn't meant to do it. I'm sure Bonnie will lay another one to replace it.

Lisa, I so completely agree with the others and what they have said. Don't blame yourself! The pencil incident was unfortunate, but you didn't mean for that to happen, and you certainly won't repeat it. Ange's kid markers are likely much softer and less likely to accidentally pierce the shell. As for your friends, maybe don't tell them so much about the process. They don't know what you do about raising baby birds in captivity. They are thinking of wild birds and mothers abandoning nests because of human scent. Maybe just leave your bird talk to us. We ARE rooting for you! Please keep telling us how it's going.

Yes, Pammy I've been talking less and less to others who don't "understand" like we do. I explain to my mom as much as I can but she's got a thick head so she is committed to her idea of moms abandoning the nest because of human scent. In good news, there was a new egg laid today I'm very proud of my Bonnie. She's being such a good mommy. I'm still feeding them quinoa for protein. I'm going to have to start another thread about my ideas and plans on feeding my birds. So now we are officially at 3 eggs. She has laid 5 total but one I unfortunately ruined and one was thrown by them because it was cracked (I really hope I didn't cause the crack....) I wonder how many more there will be if there will be more and also which ones will be (if any) fertile. This is all so exciting for me and both Bonnie and Clyde seem excited themselves

I never mark eggs its either they hatch or they dont. I care about when they hatch not when an egg is laid.

Excellent. Has she started to lay on them yet? That is when the real fun begins

BB, if you don't mark them, how long do you wait for them all to hatch? Like do you just have her lay on her clutch for a month or so?
Luvs, yes she's been laying on them since the second egg (or third, I don't remember) but it's very cute to see

Luvs, yes she's been laying on them since the second egg (or third, I don't remember) but it's very cute to see Since ive never had infertile eggs when one egg hatches they all days apart. I just keep track when the first egg is laid say its like today then 3 weeks or so later if they dont hatch then i remove them. Or if they hatch and some are dead in shell i remove them when the chicks start to feather just to make sure they wont. I actually candled an egg yesterday because I never marked when she started and it was internally pipped two hours later there was two chicks. It seemed like she was sitting on them forever.

So Bonnie laid a total of 5 eggs and I have 3 in the nest. I'm 90% sure all 3 are infertile. What should I do from here? She spends all day laying on them

I have read that you should let them sit on the eggs until they lost interest in them.
