I want to build a cage for my budgies (the one I have is falling apart, and I'd rather have it as a travel cage). Something like this type of cage, but only one or two squares. I would like to stick to PVC, since it's one of the things I have talent with making things with. The things I'm looking for answers on are: 1) What kind of mesh should I be using? Links? Where can I purchase? Will poultry fencing like this type work? Not necessarily that exact stuff, since I think the holes are too big for budgies, but something like that. 2) Would a wooden cage work better than PVC?

I built my inside one, and my birds just barely started going around it. It's HUGE. Here's a picture. I used zip ties, 3/4" pvc pipe, and black plastic mesh for it. A lot of cutting and sizing and i have it all set up now. If you want, I can send you the plans.

My birds actually don't chew. They never have. Even the toys that they're allowed to chew lol. I thought about doing a wire mesh, but I heard galvanized was bad for birds.

I think with galvanized it has to be pre-treated in a vinegar solution

Hmm, well the wire was my first choice, but I was unsure about the galvanized. And a bunch of people on another forum said that the stuff I used was ok if my birds don't chew.

How are your birds enjoying their new home, Bree?

They had to survive in a 1' x 1' x 1' travel cage for the weekend because we went to my parents' house, and as soon as we got home, they made a beeline for their new cage. They love how much space there is.
