Emma and Piper have been lovers for several months now.
Recently, Emma has been bending her head down when next to Silver. Silver responds by trying to preen her, then Emma beaks him. Then, she bends her head down again, he tries again, and she beaks him again.
Poor Silver. He just can't seem to do it right.

It will take some time lol. Are you planning on breeding them?

No, I'm not planning on breeding them. I'm just enjoying watching the relationships among them. Silver has started allowing me to "scrtch" his little head. It's SO sweet!

Poor Silver! Is Emma still breaking him?

I haven't seen her beak him recently. Silver is turning into a very handsome bird. He continues to woo Emma with his songs. Sometimes he chases Piper away from her with an open beak.
Piper continues to mate with Emma. She is still receptive up to a point, but she gets fed up with it quickly.

My guess is the natural order of things will be in Silver's favor. I wonder whether the addition of a female budgie would make a difference for Piper.

Ah, yes. After reading about Sugarplum I started thinking about a female budgie.

Well, for the sake of Emma, I hope Silver wins in that battle.

"Well, for the sake of Emma, I hope Silver wins in that battle."
My brother says she's better off with Piper, because he doesn't weight as much on her back.

Well, your brother may very well have a good point there. I do hope that Silver eventually wins Emma's affections, though. I also think it would be ultimately make Piper happier if his loving devotions were returned by a girl budgie. Maybe you'll find yourself getting one, Diana. Then again, we all know that just because we humans try to balance a flock, it doesn't always go the way we want it to. You could get a female budgie, and Piper could just keep on after Emma.

Well, I wasn't thinking of that way but more of him not mounting her at all. You can have one of my females
