My name is Emma. I remember being with some other little birds, and a human came and fed us. Then, all of a sudden, I was in a small cage, all by myself in a store. People came over and stuck their faces up to the cage and scared me. I was there for a long time.
One day, a big hand with a glove on came into the cage and tried to grab me. I screamed and ran all around the cage. I did everything to get away, but it didn't work. Then, I was in a little dark place.
A little while later, some light came into the box. I was scared. Finally, I came out, because I was hungry. I was in another cage (a big one), but by myself. I could hear other birds.
The first night, all I did was climb around and around the tope of the cage chriping. I was looking for a way out.
The next few days I sat on my seed dish. A human sat near me. Now and then she would drop a sunflower seed into my dish. I love sunflower seeds.
The human kept trying to get me on her finger, but I hissed and backed away.
I could see two smaller birds across the room. One day I got out of the cage when the door was open. I flew over to the other cage to say "hello" to the little birds. I went into their cage, ate some of their food, and swang on their swing. Then, the little birds came over to my cage. I liked them a lot, and we all sat on a perch together.
We all lived together then. Every morning we got out of the cage, but I didn't want to go back. The human chased me all over the house, and scared me. Even though she gave me sunflower seeds, I didn't like her at all.
One day, there was a little cage on top of the big cage, with millet in it. I went in to eat the millet, and the human closed the door and took me away from my friends to someplace I couldn't make any sense of. Then, other hands grabbed me. Someone pulled out my wing and cut some feathers off. I was SO SO mad!!! How could they do such a thing?
When I got back home with my friends, I couldn't fly. So, I just sat on my perch and sulked. I wouldn't even come out of the cage.
Things are getting better now. I got used to not being able to fly. I started coming out of the cage and playing with my friends on top of it. The human comes over with sunflower seeds. She only gives them to me if I jump onto her arm, but it's not really so bad.
I fell in love with the little yellow bird, whose name is Piper. We spend lots of time together. He preens me and jumps on my back, which feels good. We want to make eggs, but it doesn't seem to happen. I wonder if something is wrong with me.
Now, I am glad I am living here. There are three of us now, A couple of months ago another bird came, named Silver. He was very babyish. Now, he is grown up. Sometimes he chases Piper away from me. Sometimes I let him preen me, but not too much. I like Piper better.
My feathers have grown back!!! Now, I can fly again. So, I can explore the room. Sometimes I fly over to my human's chair and sit on the back of it. Sometimes I sit on her laptop. She will give me a sunflower seed if I jump onto her wrist, but I don't stay very long. However, I have come to like it when she talks to me and tells me how pretty and good I am. I have learned when I need to go back into the cage, and it's not so bad. It's not forever. We get outside play time twice a day.
I guess my life has become much better. I still don't want anything to do with fingers. Silver sits on the human's finger. It looks pretty silly to me, but I guess we're all different.
