Hello all! I think we've settled into our new routine as the school year is firmly in place and my regular commitments at church are back in swing. Faith got to spend some extra time with her birds this week, and got a little concerned. Diggory was easy to hold and didn't mind a few kisses and pets, which is unusual for him. He will usually perch with some bribery (millet), but kisses are a no-go for him. We are a little wary, as our last 3 birds were very cuddly and charming just before they died. Of course, he hadn't had any millet for a while so perhaps he was just pleased with the bribe Twitter remains her ornery self. She is a bossy bird when millet is around, and likes to screech just for the joy of it all. They seem more content inside their cage instead of getting out for some exercise. Could be because while it was so terribly hot, we turned the fan on in the room and left the cage door shut for a few weeks. It's back down to double-digits here, so the window is open a crack for fresh air and no fan is on. Twitter is out right now, talking away. One of my dogs has had a terrible time with his allergies - he's allergic to his environment, so anything and nothing can cause a flare up. I'm hoping it's an indicator that autumn is around the corner and some permanently cooler air. Hope all is well with you all!

Hello! That is cool, routine is nice lol. Maybe he finally figured out that human touch isn't bad at all . That is pretty exciting. Ha, females rules the roost. I know for sure, got 4 of em . I find it funny too, some days they can't wait to get out but other days they don't care. Just depends on their mood, I suppose. That is a bummer, can't you give him a little benedryl?

If the bendryl doesn't help and he starts to chew his paws ( paws will get a rusty color) antibiotics and antihistamines may be need

Wow, what a great list of medications that are safe! I'm afraid he is way past over-the-conunter medication, he's been on prescription medication for years now. He currently takes prednisone (varying levels depending on the outbreak) combined with benadryl. I am planning on taking him to the vet in a couple of days. I'm afraid the prednisone is no longer working and we'll have to change to something stronger, as well as harder on his system. AND more expensive. We have a medicated, soothing lotion that we put on him as well. It's a good thing he's got a short coat and likes to be rubbed! He is a mix of Schipperke and Dachsund, weighs about 32 pounds.

Cyndi I work at animal clinic. I understand the prednisone and Benadryl combo. Have you done a allergy blood panel to see what causes his outbreaks ? Have you tried allergy shots ?

I was told with no uncertainty that he is allergic to his environment, also that allergy shots would be very expensive and probably give him very little relief. We got him from a place that shut down a bunch of puppy mills in Arizona, and his health has been poor since he was very young. We are feeding him specialty dog food and avoiding anything that might be allergy-sensitive. We've had outbreaks before, usually with the weather changes. Fall and Spring are the worst. He will be seeing our vet in a couple of days. thanks for the suggestions!

Poor puppy! As one who suffered from allergies, I truly feel for him! Sounds like his are much worse than my own. Poor doggie!
