My cockatiel of 11 months, Comet, died suddenly last night. It's really bothering me because he showed no signs of illness until the day he passed. For the rest of the day he seemed ok. He played with his toys, had a few bird conversations with people, ate and drank...it wasn't until later in the night he was out of breath, but continued playing with toys, and even ate a little. About an hour later I go to check on him, and he's really gasping for air, and he's about to fall off his perch. I took him out and held him, he started making gagging noises, and his tongue looked out of place. He didn't last much longer after that, and he died in my hands. Just ordered him new toys and food from Fosters and Smith last week I moved recently so I may wait for quite a while. RIP Comet Attachments:

Oh no, that is so horrible I am sorry for your loss. Sometimes we can't get an explanation onto why things happens. The only thing you can do is think of all the good times and how much of a good life he had lived.

I am so sorry about Comet. These things can happen so suddenly with birds. I am thinking how sad I would be if this happened. Be good to yourself.

Thanks everyone.
Comets new treats, perches, ladders and toys and food arrived 2 days ago from Foster & Smith. Got a sad after seeing the stuff since he's not around to enjoy it. I moved out into the country and are still getting settled in. I kept all his perches and bowls and the toys he had when he passed care about for when I'm ready to get a new cockatiel. I'll be getting a bigger cage next time

Take your time, don't need to rush into it with a new bird.
