I just can't believe it!
I was sitting on the couch, farther away from the cage than usual, and Piper started looking at me and chirping. I crawled across the floor, staying low, and opened the cage door. Piper came out right away and got on my finger several times. Then Snowy came out and did the same--no clicker, no treats, no bribe.
After a few minutes, I put Snowy on top of the cage. Then, I got Piper on my finger and tried to get him up on top of the cage with Snowy, so I could go out in the kitchen. He just didn't want to get off my finger! So, I told him we could go out to the kitchen together. He stayed on my finger while I went out and opened the dishwasher and put some water on to boil. He seemed completely relaxed, and curious about everything.
Then, we came back out to the living room and I put him on top of the cage with Snowy.
Piper is such an adorable little guy. I named him after a yellow bird I had growing up, and he's starting to seem friendly, like that budgie was.
I was feeling discouraged a while back, and now things are really getting better and better.
Piper still loves Snowy, but now he likes me too.

Yay! It's like Piper was telling you, "Don't worry, Diana, I know you love me, and I love you too! Just be patient." I'm eager to see how they act after this and if it becomes the new norm.

Lisa: If you take it step by step with Bonnie and Clyde, and maybe spend five minutes a day, you may be surprised. I think the thing is to be consistent and not expect immediate results.
But, if you prefer to just enjoy their antics and have a close bond with Lucy, that's fine, too.
Later last evening Piper came out again, sat on my finger, then tucked his head into his back feathers, and dozed off, murmuring to himself. I felt SO trusted.
I think you are right, Kenny. The real fun is just beginning.

That's the first step, Santa. Once that's happening, the rest will come in the birdie's sweet and the dad's sweet encouragement.
