I know I am expecting a lot from a Bird that I have had less then a month, 3 weeks Sunday, but we are making good progress. Today I washed some spinach and hung it in her cage. We will see if she nibbles on it. In her bowl I made spinach with seeds and for desert strawberry mash mixed with a blend of seeds Oh put bird bath up too.

Santa, I have read on our forum and other places that raw spinach is not good for budgies, for some reason. I hope Sarah will jump in and explain it the way she does so well. It's great that you are introducing Lucky to the wonderful world of fresh produce! I just wouldn't want you to accidentally give her the one thing that's bad for her.

Either way she is not eating it.

Sounds wise to me. Hopefully Sarah will see this later, and can elaborate.

Spinach is a very healthy green, but it contains a chemical component that inhibits the uptake of calcium. Because birds already struggle with calcium deficiency in captivity, its not a good idea to feed spinach. However, cooking the spinach until completely wilted will break down the chemical to the point where it does not cause the problem.
