I just took another step closer to getting my Mistletoe! I used the $10 off coupon at Petco online, and ordered the 18x18x30" white cage that so many of you use and recommend. This will not be Mistletoe's permanent home, as I am truly hoping to incorporate her into my huge flight cage with my budgies, but I want her to have a little place she can retreat to if she needs to get away from the little guys for a while, or if heaven forbid, the rooming together doesn't work out. Also, she will of course need her own rooming accommodations in the beginning, regardless of what happens down the road with sharing the big cage.
Our oldest daughter was home this evening, which is always such a joy for me. She loves Kringle & Clausy! She always plays with them and hand feeds them seeds and they are really great about going to her. We spent some time talking about Mistletoe and her need for her own cage in the beginning. After Rachel left, I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on getting the second cage. I also bought a grapevine perch, a colorful, chewable toy, and a birdie kabob. It will be so much fun getting Mistletoe's beginner home set up for her big adoption day! (I wish I had a clue when that might be!)
Mary told me tonight that the pictures she attempted to take this evening kept making the yellow parts of the babies look white, so she didn't want to send those. I can understand that. Probably poor evening lighting or something. She said she'll take more pictures again tomorrow. I am so ready for a new picture of my sweet baby!!

I'm glad you ordered the cage! It will make things go by faster I hope haha. I'll have to look up at grape vine branch. It sounds interesting.
I thought this thread would hold Mistletoe's updated picture and was sad it didn't!

Basically Emily's comment was everything going through my mind after reading this! I must say - Lucy LOVES the cockatiel toys that have the thin wooden pieces for her to chew apart and also the straw balls (or whatever they're made out of)

Oh yeah! I forgot all about those straw balls. I want to get some of those for my birds! Well, maybe Santa will bring them some for Christmas. Sorry about no picture. I want one, too!!!

You can order individual bird safe straw/twig balls for a LOT cheaper! I end up tying one from cotton string and Pepper and Whisper love picking it up and dropping it or chewing.

Aww yay! It will be so nice to start 'nesting' for her coming home, like an expectant mama.... which I guess you are in an unusual and fun way It's wonderful being with family, isn't it? I obviously have never had a child come home, because I have none. But I have come home, and I know how wonderful it feels to have everyone around, like being complete Pirate lives in this cage, and it was just a perfect size for him as a baby. It was big enough but comforting, and it was manageable for me. However, he still had a wee bit of growing to do when he came home, and his wing and tail feathers have almost doubled in length since then. I hope to save up for a monster of a cage for him, and find a way to combine my two petco flights into a long cage for my budgies. I think I can do it safely with zip ties, but I really have to experiment on that one.

I remember you talking about combining your two cages into one. I really think it's doable and shouldn't be too hard. Just pop off the two inside panels and get cracking with the zip ties. I'll bet you could have it finished in just a little while. I look forward to seeing pictures. Of course you have to get Pirate's new cage first. Whew, I'm beat! I spent the day prematurely packing Thanksgiving trims away, cleaning our living room, and decorating for Christmas! I'm just ready. I'll finish up tomorrow after church. How I love the Christmasy transformation of our home.

Pammy - you said you ordered a grapevine perch from petco right? I was there to day, and I saw the grapevine perch, it looked awesome! I wanted to get it but I didn't because it was worried it would take too much space because Lucy doesn't have that much space in her cage. I was able to get the natural perches though that you have for Kringle & Claus, and she loves it!

I'm glad you got some natural perches for Lucy! Yeah, I really like the looks of the grapevine perches. I only hope I can keep it sanitary, with all those crevices.
