No, they should mate several times a day until Mango not only lays, but finishes laying eggs. Birds do not get pregnant in the same fashion we do: each egg that will be laid needs to be fertilized separately as it develops in the body. The first few successful mating will only trigger a bird's body to make the eggs. We still have a little way to go.

Ok thank you for that Sarah =3 I think I'm on the right track though! They mated another 2 times today! and he attempted a 3rd but she pecked him off, I've been carefully studying them and they seem to mate at 2pm-3:30pm, well that's all I've seen she's in and out of the box every day, also in 3 weeks she's finished 2 whole cuttle bones. I also have a high protein birdie recipe for you all you can see in in the recipes section.

Wow! That's amazing about the cuttlebone. She really knows what she needs.

Yeah, I was really surprised to read about her polishing off that much cuttlebone. My boys have had the same old cuttlebone since they moved in back in August, and sometimes I see a wee bit more scraped off of it, but it's still pretty much intact and full size. Maybe I should fling it out and give them a fresh one?

My birdies use the cuttlebone from time to time, but it's still the same one I got in september. Emma is particularly partial to the mineral block. Right after I got it she was at it a lot. Now, not so much.

Yes she is a machine when it comes to cuttle bone... heh No Pammy you should keep it, because don't think cuttlebone expires XD If you want it more fresh you should scrape off the top layer of the cuttle bone with a butter knife. Also Pammy I think your boys probably don't eat that much cuttle bone cause they don't need the calcium atm, they only nibble cause they need calcium but they don't need to form atleast 5 eggs. My budgies prefer the cuttle bone than the mineral block, I think it's because the mineral block is much harder than the cuttle bone. UPDATE- Going well no mating today that I saw but Mango was in the nesting box for a while today and she was doing this weird thing with her tail up against the corner of the box... Pic- NOT MY BUDGIE JUST AN EXSAMPLE

Good point, Blue. I have been wondering whether I will see increased signs of nibblage on the cuttlebone and mineral block after I have some female birds.

Any ideas on why Mango perches her butt up like that in the nesting box??

She's in breeding condition and is likely thinking about either mating or laying eggs. I'd guess that's why she is presenting like that.
