Last night the scariest thing happened. I woke up at 4am when I heard Lucy flapping and flying around her cage like a maniac. I was so scared I turned the light on and tried to calm her down. she finally stopped flapping and I went to go get a type of night light for her so she would be able to see whatever was "scaring" her. So I turned the light off again and then I heard Bonnie and Clyde start doing that in the cage next to Lucy. That's what was freaking Lucy out. So I had to wake my mom up at 430am to help me carry Bonnie and Clyde's cage back downstairs, since the painting was done. It was Bonnie and Clyde who freaked Lucy out. Not shadows or lights or anything but they were going crazy for whatever reason and Lucy heard them flapping and that scared her. Poor little thing they're still downstairs and I have Lucy in my room still and I'm petrified that she's going to do it again tonight, although I know it was just the other two who got her scared.

Oh no! I'm glad she's alright. Night terrors can sometimes lead to injuries. The night light should help her (without unnecessary shadows that might scare her) and with B and C out of the room and that being her original fear, she should be fine. You reacted perfectly in calming her down, Lisa! Pepper has her own night light as well and I have only had one instant where she flapped around but it lasted for a couple seconds and then she settled down (I was still freaking out though).

Yes, it only lasted probably not even a minute but I was shaking and almost cried because 1. It was 4am and I had to be up in 90 minutes, and 2. Her body language and everything just screamed "fear"! I'm an EXTREMELY light sleeper so I most likely woke up as soon as it begun and I shot right out of bed to try to help (and also to freak out calmly). I'm happy that she's not hurt and was okay the rest of the day today, it's a new night so I hope she'll be okay tonight. Idk what got into B & C but they're nuts so I don't mind them, but they scared poor Lucy half to death

You can't actually be sure that B&C caused the first one of Lucy's attacks. You can only be sure that all three of your birds suffered from night terrors last night. B&C may have only done this because they were still terrified from Lucy's panic attack. It is hard to say what it might have been - an unusual sound, a change in atmosphere, even a bad dream. The best you can do is provide nightlights for your birds and always have a way to hear them if they start to panic, so that you can get to them.
Pirate unfortunately has night terrors on a regular basis: light or no light. It is a trait that is unfortunately common among cockatiels, particularly while they are still considered young. Its important to call out to a bird who starts to panic, and get the light on as soon as possible. Sometimes, the terror runs so deep and is so profound that they can't come out of flight or fight response alone. In the event that the bird continues to thrash in the light, you need to snatch them out of the cage and hold them gently but firmly to your chest, speaking soothingly. This will stop the bird from causing itself injury until it can regain control and become calm. Pirate once had a night terror so bad I had to cradle him for over half an hour. He was so terrified he didn't know me at all. It was the single scariest pet experience I have ever had. It was like his whole personality was gone.
I strongly suggest to all cockatiel owners who's birds have ever had a night terror that they give their birds a sleeping area in the bedroom or have their cage very near to a bedroom door. In the time the sound to wake a person up, have that person travel down the stairs and into the living room, the bird might have suffered a severe injury. Night terrors are very serious, and Lucy is likely to have some more.

I did grab her out and try to hold her up to me. I did that instinctively - weird! I know I can't be sure it was them, but I wanna say 80% yes. One of their ladders was like on the floor near where they sleep so what I'm thinking is that one of them tried to move and it either fell beneath them, causing them to fall, or the noise of it falling startled them. I didn't mention that when I got up to help Lucy, b & C were also fluttering around at that time until I uncovered their cage and put the light on. Then once I got Lucy situated with a night light, and turned the light off, B & C started it which made Lucy panic again. So the first time I do not know what caused it but the second time I know for sure it was them. But when I turned the light off, I stood there to watch to make sure things were ok before I went back to sleep. It was only a minute or two after I turned the light off that they started freaking out and I had to move them downstairs. She's been fine thus far, I hope she has a good night tonight because I am EXHAUSTED but it's okay if she wakes me up I won't hold it against her ever. I feel like I have an infant... And I love it! XD

Awwww, poor babies!!!!! That's so sad and scary. I feel scared now about Mistletoe getting night frights. Kringle & Clausy have never had one, to my knowledge. I'm so glad Lucy, Bonnie & Clyde are all okay and didn't physically harm themselves. I hope they and you have sweet dreams tonight, Lisa.

Do you have a baby monitor left over from Nate's wee days? You could leave one by Mistletoe's cage so you could hear if something goes wrong, provided your husband doesn't want a baby tiel in the bedroom

Im happy that all 3 are all ok and hope this isn't a regular occasion with Lucy as sarah said is common with young tiels. I had this happenust once with Kyba last year and have not had another episode since thank the lord. Like yourself I was terrified for him and kylie both again I hope you don't have to go through this again.

Sarah, our house isn't very big and is all on the same floor, so I never used baby monitors. My mama-radar works just fine with my regular ears, or always has for human babies. I hope it will be the same for my cockatiel baby.

That's really frightening, Lisamarie. It's nice you shared about it, in case Emma ever has one. I am definitely going to get her a night light!
