On the Eastern Shore of Maryland from back in the depression days they made white potato pies. I am thinking of making one for Thanksgiving. I will make the crust myself using crisco and butter
2 medium potatoes, cooked, peeled and mashed 2/3 cup butter 1 cup sugar 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/8 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup whipping cream 1/2 cup milk 2 teaspoon lemons, rind of 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg 4 eggs, beaten
Directions:
1 Combine potatoes, butter, sugar, baking powder and salt in medium bowl, mix well. 2 Gradually add whipping cream and milk, stirring until well blended. 3 Stir in lemon rind, juice, vanilla and nutmeg. 4 Add eggs mixing well. 5 Pour into pie crust. Bake at 350'F for 55 minutes knife comes out of center clean.

Is this a meal or dessert? And does whipping cream mean whip cream that you put over pudding?

It is dessert pie, think sweet potato pie kinda. The whipping cream and milk are mixed in the the potatoes, Whipping cream is thick cream than can be whipped so that it doubles in volume. They come in cans or cartons. Whipped cream is thick cream that has already been whipped. Usually comes in aerosol canisters. It is kind of like heavy cream.
