I'm here in NYC, everybody!!! It's bitterly cold and wet. At least I can't get sick from it -- I'm already sick! We are having an amazing time. Walked all around NYC today, road the subway and the elevated trains. Saw all kinds of stores and sites that are on movies. Saw the not-yet-lit HUGE Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center with the ice skating rink below, and went to Radio City Music Hall and saw the Rockettes Christmas show! It was fabulous!! Tomorrow morning is the big parade!! I'll be freezing my rump off, but I'll be there!!!!!!!!

It was nothing short of wonderful, everybody. Thanks so much for asking. I'm going to copy in what I posted on FaceBook about it: We're all safely home from New York City and our amazing Thanksgiving Day Parade experience. It was so incredibly fun, and something I know I will remember forever. I knew I would LOVE seeing the parade in real life, those balloons flying immediately overhead! Oh my!! What I didn't know was how much I was going to LOVE NYC! Such a wonderful time! No, I wouldn't want to live there, but it was fabulous to visit. Aron and I walked all over NYC, Herald Square, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Central Park and rode back and forth all over Manhattan and Queens on the subway! We went public transportation all the way, riding city busses, trains and the subway. It was amazing to see and live all that for a couple of days. We walked through neighborhoods that looked like Sesame Street minus the muppets and bright colors and ate at little local cafes and from street vendors, and we went to Radio City Music Hall and saw the Rockettes perform their beautiful Christmas show. The people of NY are wonderful. Yeah, some were indifferent, and some were rude, but I struck up conversations with even some really scary-looking characters down in the subway, and they were so friendly and nice, once they saw that I wasn't afraid of them. One cafe owner even asked us how we found the people of New York, and we said they are so friendly, and he replied, "Well, we're not known for that." I said it must be because Christmas is coming, and he said that must be it. It was so, sooooooo much fun, and I'm so grateful I got to go! I planned on this being my one and only visit to NYC, but now I know I hope to go back there again one day. And the parade itself was so much fun! I've always, always enjoyed watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade on tv, but to be there in person was magnified 1000-fold. Our daughter told she was on the right edge of the formation, and so my husband and I got ourselves on the west side of the street, and just kept walking north, and then ducking back over to the route and the throngs of people made it impossible to see, so we walked farther north again and cut back over, and farther north again and cut back over, and kept doing that until it was nearly time for the parade to start. We wound up with a really great position were we could see very well, and then halfway thru the parade, the peeps in front of us decided to leave for reasons I couldn't fathom, but that meant we could scoot even closer to the front, and I was actually standing immediately at the waist-high gated barricades the NYPD puts up so people can't stand in the actual street, and my husband was directly behind me (he can see over my head). We were literally RIGHT THERE in front, and when our daughter marched by, we screamed her name and if I'd only had go-go gadget arms, I could have reached out and touched her. Her eyeballs glanced over at us, she saw us, and gave us such a sweet and happy smile, all dressed in her red and white Macy's marching uniform. I was overflowing with pride and joy. And then of course Santa Claus came next, as the Macy's Great American Marching Band traditionally leads him in. He was right there, atop his sleigh with Mrs. Claus. He was smiling and waving and I was beaming and flapping my arm for all I as worth. It was incredible! The whole thing. The whole experience. I am so, so very glad and grateful to have had this opportunity.

We were watching the Thanksgiving Parade last year on TV, and saw the Macy's Great American Marching Band and how great they were, and Theresa said, "I wonder what you have to do to get into that band?" She got up and went to the computer and researched it all by herself and found her answers. She printed out an application, filled it out, listing her status in her high school band, and all of the honor bands she has made. Then she worked up her solo for State solo & ensemble contest and cut an audition cd with her band director. We mailed in the whole works and a few weeks later, she received the wonderful letter of acceptance. Then we got busy with fundraising.
She told us the other day that she spent the week in NYC feeling that this was an amazing opportunity for once in a lifetime, until the parade started. At that moment, she knew she would do it again. She absolutely loved it, and has been invited to return next year, skipping the audition process.

Wow. It's great that she made all that effort to achieve a dream. I would guess that that is a characteristic that will serve her well all her life.
