The new cage arrived Thursday. Friday my brother came up and we put it together. It looks so much nicer than the gray one. Moving Emma in was pretty uneventful. We rolled the 2 cages next to each other, with the doors close. Emma was on her swing. I decided to just try picking up her swing and moving it, with her on it. To my surprise, that went uneventfully  . However, the old two steps forward, one step back seems to be in operation. The new cage is arranged just like the old one. However, she is again refusing to take millet from my hand. In the evening she seems to spent a lot of time climbing around and around the sides of her cage (near the top) and hooting. Sigh. I know I just need to be patient, but I want her to start liking me more. Today we packed up the old cage to send back. That was pretty hard, because the parts didn't seem to fit in the box. But, we finally worked it out. We went out for pizza for dinner. Then my brother went home and I tried to talk to Emma and to feed her millet. It just didn't work. Tomorrow is another day. |

yes for sure. it will take some time for her to adjust to the new cage. i hope she will within a few days. time will only tell |

I'm glad the process of moving her to her new cage was pretty easy! I'm sure she'll come around very soon. Your brother is awesome for helping you Can you get a sound record of her hooting? |

Don't worry Diana. She will come around. You might want to try pushing her just a little more - she isn't un tamed. She needs to get to know you to form a bond. So try to touch her from time to time and show her you won't hurt her. Obviously if she is getting very upset you should back off, but don't let this become too much of a pattern.

Isn't it something how the exact same stuff that came out of a box never wants to go back into the box. I wonder what they do to it in the factory to make it so compact? What a relief it must have been to you to move Emma so uneventfully, after worrying about it. So often I find that things I worried myself sick over didn't end up being so rough after all. A lesson in not worrying, I guess. That's really something I need to work on. My kiddos say I'm a worrywart, and I'll admit it's true. I'm glad you and your brother went out for pizza. |

It's great she went into her new home Try petting/scratching Emma by her cheek patches. Sometimes when Lucy is being stubborn she'll be angry but then when I scratch her cheeks she forgets all about it and begs for more when I stop! |

I appreciate the suggestions.
I will try to get a sound recording later.
As far as touching her, she will not let my hand get near enough to her to touch her.
This morning she would again take some millet through the cage bars. This is good. I tried holding it in the doorway of the cage, but she is not tempted to come to the open door yet.
I really wish I had decided to get her sooner, before she spent so much time in the pet shop.

Diana, I understand how you feel about the face stratches, or rather the lack of them. I would so love to find out whether Kringle & Clausy would enjoy having their little faces scratched, but they won't let me find out. While they will sometimes get on my finger, and Kringle will now even get on my shoulder as long as he has millet to eat while up there, neither of them will even consider letting me approach their faces with my finger.
I'm happy yo hear the Emma is slowly moving in the right direction again.

Early this afternoon I shut the cats away and managed to get Emma out of her cage with millet. She wouldn't get on my finger, though. She flew from the porch of her cage to the floor. So, I got down there with her and just talked to her. I was down there with her about an hour She was walking back and forth in front of me. She even, ONE time, nibbled on my hair, but then backed off again.
I had a natural basket on the floor, about 15 inches in diameter and about 10 inches high, and she jumped up and perched on it. So, I took her, on the basket, into the dining room and put her on the table while I ate lunch and tried to tempt her with treats. She was very resistant--the stubborn little thing! Then it seemed she was just sitting there with her eyes half closed, so I took the basket, with her on it, to the door of the cage. She went in and slept for a couple of hours.
This evening I opened the door of the cage and she flew out again and went onto the floor. I put the basket down, and she jumped up on it. I took the basket, with her on it, over to my chair and put it on my lap. We sat there for about an hour. watching TV. I chatted to her and gave her some millet. She's willing to come really close to my hand when she's eating from a spray of millet, but NO WAY is she going to perch on it or on my arm! Then, suddenly she few off the basket and ended up on the floor. After about a minute I was able to get her on a perch. She seemed very nervous, but I moved very slowly over to her cage, and she went in. Now, she is sitting on her swing, cleaning herself from top to bottom.
