Well here in good ol Virginia temps now are dropping to freezing. At night I 4/5ths cover my budgies cage with a fleece blanket. Temp in house stays at 70-72. Anything else I should know? First winter with them. Maybe if I tie my Maine Coon Mr.Boo to the cage they will stay warm indefiently The loveable cat would hate my after 9 years of being my shadow

NJ too. I've had birds over winter also and we made sure to keep the cage far away from any doors or windows because of the draft. So if the cage is in the room with a door leading to outside I recommend getting one of those things for the bottom of the door to keep the draft out. Works wonders! The birds should be fine as long as no drafts hit them

In winter it is usually best to keep your cage away from windows and outside doors, and always have a stock of blankets and rich foods on hand. If the power goes out in winter, having tons of calories and having the cage covered in heavy blankets can mean the difference between life and death for your feathered friends.

Hi everyone,
We are in Illinois in a part of the state notorious for ice storms and loss of power. We bought a generator specifically because of our birds. We feel much less worried knowing we have it just in case. We also keep blankets, heating pads, bottled water, emergency first aid kit, evacuation cages, etc. in the birds' room. Better to be prepared (or at least, we worry less!)!
