Your budgies are beautiful! The pied hen looks a lot like my Snowy. I'm curious whether she has a slightly shorter tail than your boy bird? Snowy has a shorter tail than piper--by at least an inch.

It's been a few weeks and it's now really obvious that Pearl (the white bird) is definitely female. Her tail is quite a bit shorter than my male bird. Mo (the male) is about a year old and Pearl is just going through her first molt, so she's only about 4 months. I don't know if she will get any bigger or if her tail will get any longer. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

So do female budgies have shorter tails than male budgies, or is it just an individual thing that has nothing to do with gender? I have two males, and I'd say their tails are pretty much the same length.

We still think Snowy is male. I am wondering whether the recessive pied has a shorter tail. Have you ever seen pictures of parrotlets? They have really short tails and are very cute. (No, there is not a parrotlet in my future--just looking. A gal can look, can't she?  |

Poki's tail is shorter than Leelo's, and I'm pretty sure he's a dominant pied (I think budgiebonkers told me)  also oh my God what a pair of cuties you have, Carolyn! I can't stop looking at them, they made me miss my babies even more  I had to leave them with my roomate because I came to my hometown to spend the holidays with my family... Anyway, Pearl huh? That's my name in english I feel honoured to share my name with that cutie pie to be honest! By the way, I googled "parrotlets" because I didn't know them and woow they are so adorable!! Now I want one lol |
