Our little Kyle has lost the flight feathers on only one side of his body. He seems to be able to fly still, but keeps stretching that one wing. Is this normal? Should we clip the other wing to improve his balance? He must have lost them while out in the bedroom while we were away at church.

You should clip to make them even on both sides. A bird that is off balance is likely to lose control when flying and crash into something. Kyle will have a harder time flying and will move more slowly, but he shouldn't hit something and get a concussion as he might now.
Stretching the wing is normal in this circumstance, but it does tell us that your Kyle is in some pain. This kind of pain is understandable: you would be sore if some of your hair was ripped out, for example. You need to keep an eye on it and make sure that he stops doing it after a few days. You might want to check his skin for redness or irritation if the feathers were torn out. You may need to put a little neosporin on any damaged skin to protect it and give him some ease.

Thank you Sarah! do you know how this might have happened? He and his lady friend have been flying about this room for almost a year now with no incidents, so I am a bit puzzled. We thought they were pretty safe in there.

I'm sorry to hear about this, and hope Kyle will be feeling much better very soon.
