When Widget was a baby, a poorly trained store hand clipped his feathers. One side was cut so short that it damaged the feather follicles in his wings. He can only grow one feather on that side of his body, and as a result, he cannot fly at all. However, that hasn't stopped him from having a wonderful and full life. He is the sweetest and kindest of all my birds.
Say hello!
(By the way, don't mind my crazy faces. Just think of me as a birdie jungle gym)

Widget only has one flight feather on one wing, but they are all healthy on the other side. Strange, isn't it. How does Gnomeo do without flight?

Oh I wish I could have a little widget! I bet he is so sweet because he's had to rely on you his whole life! Did you know his wings were cut poorly when you got him, or when his flight feathers never grew back?

When I went to choose him, I saw that his wings were badly clipped, one side so short that you couldn't see the flights under the secondary feathers. But he was sweet and curious and full of pep, and I decided to try my luck. I hoped I could coax him into good health, but the damage was long done. When he molted, he grew two feathers on that side of his wing. They were twisted and bent and painful, and in time, he pulled them out himself. The others did not come back. When he molted a second time, he grew a single healthy feather, but no more. Maybe he will get more back over time, but I have no way of knowing. For now, he needs me to move around with his friends in the room, but I like it. He comes as close to me as he can and peeps until I pick him up, and he always turns towards the thing he wants to go to. We've made it work
