I could use some suggestions on getting Emma back into her cage.
I can usually use millet. But, I had to go out this afternoon, and it didn't work.
Since she doesn't step up, I finally had to grab her. I tried putting a hand behind her--not touching her, but just trying to "corral" her onto my other finger. That didn't work. She ran away and then flew away. Finally, it was either grab her, not go to my class, or leave her out, and I really didn't feel that was safe. She bit me HARD, but I got her back in. I told her, while she was misbehaving, that I just wasn't having her do this--when it was time to go back, it was time to go back. I didn't yell at her, but I talked to her firmly. She got very upset when I decided I was just going to have to grab her. She started screaming. I felt bad, and she really hurt me. When I got home I was afraid I might have undone all my progress, but she seemed to forgive me. I am grateful for that.
I usually go out for a couple of hours in the early afternoon. If I can't get her back into the cage, I may not be able to let her out until I am home for the day. I think in the evening that, if she is resistant, I can probably get her back in by dimming the lights. At least, I hope so.
Any ideas?
It's possible I gave her too much millet this morning, because I was so happy she had one foot on my finger.
It was so funny to watch her tonight. I was making her stretch for the millet, wanting her to put her foot on my finger. And, I would see the foot come up and almost do it, then it would draw back again, then she'd step away. She did this over and over again, and finally had the one foot on my finger again. I didn't give her too much, though, and she went into her cage to eat at her seed dish and then I closed the door for the night. She seems okay with it.
