I've recently noticed my bird has a some feathers that look "prickly". They are around his head, not his wing or tail areas. I'm wondering what they are and what I should do about them? Thanks in advance for any help/advice!

Yep, she is molting, a natural process that she will go through every few months throughout her life. You may also have noticed an increase in tiny feathers lying around on your floor. A bit of extra vacuuming is probably coming your way. If you want, you can either gently spray your little girl with water from a clean bottle that has never been used for cleaning chemicals, hair products, or anything else. Or you can provide a birdie bath for her to splash around in if she wants to. Many birds find spritzing or bathing to be comforting during the molting process. If your bird is one who enjoys handling, she might like for you to finger-scratch her little head more than usual. She'll let you know whether she likes it or not. Molting is normal and natural, but also a bit uncomfortable for birds.
