Hi Everyone, Has anyone ever made "natural" perches from crabapple or redbud branches? I saw a post about toxic plants and didn't see these trees listed. Also saw a post about baking the branches in the oven for 40 minutes to kill off any live critters. And how would you attach it to the cage? Well, we decided to let the egg-laying hen Santino (white/blue recessive pied? not sure of the proper color terminology) visit her buddy hen Mondo (green) after we did the weekly cleaning. They got along so well that we let her stay for the day. She seemed distracted by the change of venue and toys, etc. and she didn't seem distressed nor spend any time looking for her old nest. At the end of the day, I decided to leave them together and covered up her old cage so she wouldn't notice the nest while she's out exercising. Hoping that she'll just forget about the eggs she laid in the other cage and won't lay any replacements. Must place an order tonight for pellets from Fosters and Smith. Thanks again for letting me know we have two hens! Feel much less guilty about moving Santino away from the eggs that will never hatch. Poor thing must be so spent. Any ideas why her little face feathers would be pinkish? Nothing missing, just a pink/mauve color from the cere and back towards her eyes. Her face feathers were white with a touch of pink before this clutch of eggs. I hope it's not a sign that she's malnourished else I'd feel really bad about not asking earlier .

When it warms up, I will select a variety of branches to have enough to switch out. Thanks for the link!
