So I went to the bird store today.. And the new baby cockatiels that came in about a week ago, I had my eye on one. So today I was holding him/her and I'm stuck! D: i have such a soft spot for the whiteface cockatiels. I just don't want two girl cockatiels and I wouldn't know what gender this one is unless I paid $40 for a DNA test. I would just pay for the test, but if it's a girl then it might be a waste of my money... I'm still toying with the idea of another 'tiel. I kind of want a parrotlet, which the store should be getting in either next week or the week after. Can I house a parrotlet w Lucy? I'm so torn with what to do. I really do love this baby tiel... Just look at it!!!

Oh he/she is precious. How can you resist? Dianna you get him/her. I love the pictures you took. Why don't you want to hens? However a Parrotlet would be fun. I have never even seen a Parrotlet. Oh, ummm guess who got a white face today?

Oh my god that might be the cutest sweetest baby bird I have ever seen!!! I can almost feel her warm downy feathers!!!
It is never advisable to house two varieties of parrots together without extensive research. Lucy is a tiel, so that increases your chances a lot, because tiels are a retiring, gentle species. However, parrotlets are notorious for fits of bad temper and violence against an owner's other birds. Were you to keep Lucy in the same cage as a parrotlet, it would only be a matter of time before Lucy became a victim of bullying. If you want to give Lucy a companion, I would get another tiel.
I am also curious why you wish to avoid having two female tiels? If it ameliorates your worries at all, male cockatiels are dominant and might fight among themselves, not the females. I know that is confusing to remember, given what we know about budgie behavior. If you were to roll the dice with this baby, you would still end up with either a pair or two females who would get along peaceably. I could understand if you wanted a male for other reasons, such as mimicking behavior, of course.
Buy this baby! XD

I just wanted a boy SO bad! I love the way they sing and that was what i originally wanted. I mean i guess two females wouldn't be awful but i can't resist this little baby! It's toooo cute!
Also - didn't know parrotlets would be mean to my Lucy. I just think they are so cute. But hey, we'll see.
One last thing, i do have the minimum size cage for Lucy - 18x18xsomething.... Is that okay for two? For whatever reason Lucy is pretty small.. Smaller than even Diana's Emma. Not sure why but she is! Regardless, Lucy is absolutely NEVER in her cage when I am home. Just overnight and if I leave

Oh I so get wanting a talkative boy, but that baby is irresistible. Was Lucy a baby when you got her. 18 x18 is probable too small. I just got sweetie a new cage that is 26 x 18 and I think it is a bit small now that I have Pearl. I am broke... Bot there are a couple large cages for under $100 on Amazon. So, you are getting him/her?

I wouldn't steal this 'tiel out from under you. However, I do go to New Jersey from time to time (it's where I grew up). If this store has babies I ould like to stop by. Can you tell me the name and the town?

This baby cockatiel is so sweet. I would not be able to resist a baby bird who cuddled like that.

So, you are getting him/her? I definitely do have the money. It's just that the cage i got Lucy cost me like $200 for the playtop so i would feel like i wasted so much money if i go get a bigger cage for cheaper because then what would i do with this one? I got 18x18 because the area where we were originally going to put her in fit this size cage well. However she ended up not even going in that spot - she went in a completely different room altogether, and now she is in my bedroom which is by far too small for any size bigger cage

I imagine it would be big enough for both birds so long as you continue to let them out for the majority of the day every day.

And Lisa, if you ever decide to get a bigger cage, you can clean up the $200 cage real well and sell it. You wouldn't get your full $200 back, but you could get some of it. The baby is a darling, sweetie-kins. Almost as cute as Mistletoe. Almost.

I'm kind of leaning towards getting it.... Idk! I can't resist the cuteness! I plan on going back in maybe 2 days. The bird is $200 because it is a whiteface and those are uncommon? I'm not SO much worried about the cost. But it'll also be a $40 for the DNA. I looked on hoobly and there were some breeders online selling whitefaces but you never know who you're buying from online... Also they told me the whitefaces sold out when i e-mailed. I think i would keep them in the same cage. My only issue is quarantine - i wouldn't be able to.
