Ugh! I feel so lousy. I have so many happy and wonderful people and things in my life, but BLAH, I hate this underlying sadness because Christmastime is over. Does anybody else suffer from it?
(Please don't suggest that I dwell on positive things, or on playing with Mistletoe or other happy-fying suggestions. Believe me, despite the very best of intentions, that doesn't help.)

Or instead of dwelling on positive things you could dwell on the hilarious fact that the store didn't do a very good job at clipping Seuss' wings and he flies all over the place now. Including getting stuck in my tuba... I always feel lousy after the holidays, mostly because the holidays are over and I don't have at least one holiday a month for a while. It's hard getting that much time off and all of the sudden having to go back to work.

Well of course the season is important to me and my life changes during and after it. I write in my journal all the wonderful people I have met and the wonderful fun things I did. I have my Christmas cd which I place in my car at times and most of all I start to plan for nest year. I have to go to a meeting tonight and I think I will wear my red fedora.

Pammy my Christmas tree is down and I HATE being in my living room now! I put up some purple Christmas lights (my favorite color!) and that helps a little bit but I also just can't believe Christmas is a year away now. Just try to soak in the Christmas lights, play Christmas music and go Clearance Christmas shopping (I got so many new lights and wrapping paper for next year!) The birds don't have to know Christmas is over, get some tissue paper and fill them with millet and hang them from colorful string from the top and let them forage their gifts

Thanks, everybody. It's helpful to know that others get low in January and understand. Emily, I'm glad you have your purple lights to cheer you. My blue icicle lights and snowman stuff does make me feel a little better, and I do listen to my Christmas music all day before my kiddos get home from school. I did hit Walmart and Hobby Lobby for Christmas clearance and dragged home some great finds including two more small Christmas trees for little money.
I just really miss Christmas. I miss the happiness, and the extra kind way people treat one another when I go into the gas station or wherever. I miss the excitement in the air, the music in the stores, the twinkly lights everywhere I look. I'm not a greedy person. I don't want to open presents everyday. It's not about the presents at all. It's about the inner joy, the fat smile on my face just because I feel peace. All that is tangibly missing now, and it makes me very sad.

One thing I am doing this year is find and paint ceramic houses and such for a train village I want to build. It is like getting ready for Christmas 11 months out. I also do play the look of Santa all year and that helps. When I write emails or letters I sign off with this "May the Spirit of Christmas live in your Heart all Year Long". All of this keeps me in the spirit of Christmas.

I don't allow myself to feel low after the holidays - I remember that the point of Christmas is to carry the joy with you all year. Whenever I start to feel a little glum, I quote A Christmas Carol to myself: "I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future." Don't try to focus on other happy things, focus on the happy thing that Christmas is, and try to act with that joy, friendliness and kind spirit all the time, regardless of other people's foul mood

Santa & Sarah, I just took a screen shot of your posts so I can read what you wrote over and over again.
Something that helps me feel Christmasy throughout the year is to rig up a lovely Christmas or snowman cross stitching project on my stitching frame and listen to Christmas music while I work on it.
