So I thought I was doing a good thing yest. and took out a perch that has been in a while and his High perch to which he was retreating. I replace with a colorful plastic chain perch and hung some new stuff (another piece of chain, a bell,). Anyway, this morning I found him clinging to the side of his cage, and yestrday when I put the stuff in he wouldn't go near it. Are changes bad or good for them, perhaps like people, some like change and some dread it? Also, when I was putting the stuff in, he was flying around quite a bit and chirping, my oldest said he didn't look afraid, more excited. After I was done and let him rest a minute, I put my hand in and he let me scratch his cheek a moment, so I assume he was OK with me. Do your birds do OK with new stuff?
Thanks!

Hey As far as I know it's a good thing to change their cage around every once in a while. It might take him some time to decide to approach his new toys and start playing with them, but I'm pretty sure he'll soon come around. The fact that he let you scratch his cheek is great! Mine aren't usually afraid of new stuff, but might take a day or two till one of them decides to be courageous and checks out if the new toy will eat it or not haha. On the other hand my new budgie (Sky) has been alone in a cage (mainly for quarantine purposes) for more than two weeks, and won't go near her toys (though yesterday I think I saw her touch it a couple of times). Many on this forum mention that sometimes it might take up to a month for budgies to adjust to changes..

If I remember correctly, from what you've said in the past I think Pickle tends to be nervous. Also, you are trying to get him on your finger, and it is difficult..
If above is true, change will be more difficult for him. If the new perch is up high, he may think it is a predator. I would say he was afraid, not excited. I would suggest taking it out and see if he calms down. You could then place it outside the cage, far enough away so he doesn't seem afraid, gradually move it closer (day by day) and then put it in, but low down. Then you could gradually raise it.

Mine always fly around whenever i put my hand in their cage. Ans they also take quiet a while to get used to new toys that i put in their cages

My boy budgies used to take a good six weeks to accept anything new. Now that we have the girls, they all like new things right away.
