I am glad to say that my three birds have been happily cohabiting for two whole days now. I have not seen any more mating behavior, although Piper is still preening Emma's head.
Perhaps they saw me ordering the extra cage and decided they'd better behave.
All three spent quit a bit of time today joyfully flying around the living room.

That is good news. Hmmmm, but what about when summer comes. Or spring fever. Will you still keep them covered for long nights. I suppose you will cross that bridge when you get to it.

Such relief you must feel! This is great news!
I currently keep my birds covered for about 11 hours. Noel & December are still immature at about 7 months old, and both of their ceres are still smooth and white. I am not looking forward to them developing the ceres of adult females in breeding condition. My plan is at the very first sign of cere darkening or crustifying, to keep that cage covered longer each night. My five are all doing a decent job of learning to eat their veggies, so hopefully the lower fat diet will aid in warding off any ideas of breeding for a while yet.
I'm so happy for you that Piper and Emma have cooled it, but are still so lovey with the head preening. That's very sweet.
