I am having my morning tea. Silver is sitting on my shoulder beak grinding.
Last night I realized he was begging for food. So, I gave him a tablespoon of formula. He made a funny noise right after he drank it down. I picked him up from behind to clean his feathers and then held him to my chest with both hands. He seemed content.
He had a feather sticking out awkwardly from his right wing. I was able to hold him, open his wing, and with a slight tug, it came out. I was happy that I was able to handle him. He didn't bite or try to bite.
I think he may have been hungry for the formula because I gave him less spray millet yesterday and more regular seed mix and pellets.
Then, I noticed he had a big flight feather sticking out at an odd angle. It was under his right wing, and during the day I had noticed he had trouble closing that wing after he had flown. I picked him up the way I had seen on youtube videos (hand behind the back with thumb and forefinger very gently around the neck) and turned him onto his back. He flapped a bit, bit did settle down. Then, I was able to open his wing with my other hand. I gave the feather a very light tug, and it came out. The feather must have been ready to molt. Then, I put him on my chest and cradled him in my other hand, he gradually calmed down, and I talked to him. He closed his eyes, and after a bit I put him into his cage for the night and covered him up. I felt very motherly.

You are very brave to be able to feed him formula. I'm glad he trusts you enough to handle him to deal with his feathers and such. You'll definitely have to keep up with handling him

They had showed me how to feed the formula at the bird store, and let me try it before I took him. I felt comfortable doing it. I had prepared a little formula the first couple of nights I had him home, but he wasn't interested in it. They had said only to feed it to him if he wanted it. So, last night was the first time he actually took it.
He is eating well again today. I have been watching youtube videos of hand feeding, in case he needs it again. I don't think he will with the way he is eating.
