I was thinking of making all the birds happy and dividing my big flight cage with a screen or something. How would I go about that? I don't know how I would separate it. Just a thought though. lol They are driving me crazy :[ I think it might create more chaos. lol. I'm willing to try anything though.

Did the cage come with a specific divider? I'm not even sure how you would do it either. I think the separate cages is the better way to go. But you gotta do what works for you! I'm just thinking what if like they see a toy on the other side that they want but can't play with, and if the screen wasn't small enough could pull feathers out from other birds. I'm not crafty so I don't know how to even go about actually putting the screen in

I pretty much have the same toy in each cage. I was just throwing the idea out, there are probably better ideas than a screen but that is all I can think of right now lol. I was thinking of dividing it in half but not sure which half, though I do not like that idea. Or maybe doing a 4th of the cage and have proper fly time.

I can't see a divided cage keeping the birds any happier than they are in two cages side-by-side. They still wouldn't be able to get right up close to the birds on the other side of the divide. Wouldn't the problem remain the same, except that each bird would have less space in their home?

My brother was talking about dividing my 040 flight cage when I was trying to keep the budgies separate.
I think it is possible that they would be happier in a divided flight cage, because they could actually touch beaks through the screen.
My brother thought of dividing it horizontally. However, I think it would be possible to do it vertically. I do think it could be a bit of a mess . . .
However, the idea I was playing around with was getting "hardware cloth". This is a type of screen that has square half inch holes in it. It is sturdy enough to be bent. It would have to be cut with very, very strong shears of some type. Anyway, my thought was to have the hardware cloth vertical to the left side of the top door, extending halfway down. Then, hardware cloth horizontal under the top door. Then, hardware cloth vertically on the right side of the bottom door. This would give both sides the same amount of space. The birds on the left would have more space on the bottom, the birds on the right would have more space on the bottom. The two doors would access the two different parts of the cage separately.
My mind gets into playing with this kind of thing. I have come up with more plans for things I have never done! The only thing that would need to be checked out is whether hardware cloth is made out of a metal that would be safe for birds.
Anyway, for what it's worth, even as a mental exercise, I am thowing it out there LOL.

Luvs,
Hardware cloth is very stiff and is cut with heavy metal shears. I've used it to surround roots of plants that I want to protect from voles. It's a bit tricky as it comes in a roll. Depending on how full the original roll was, it can be wound loosely or tightly. The wire edges are all unfinished and sharp (I was poked many times during my project) and the shears were big for a women's hand. And you'd have to figure out a way to keep the wires along the edges from injuring your birds. I have only seen dull metal hardware cloth, not shiny as in stainless steel, i.e. safe for birds.
Pardon my ignorance as I haven't been in the forum for very long but why do they need to be separated? Are they a breeding pair? Can they have flight time together?

Hi, Cherry!
You know quite a bit more about hardware cloth than I do. I have not used it personally, but remember my father using it for various things.
Perhaps there would be a better material to use?

thanks for the idea anyway diana. i just want people's ideas too. for the best option. pammy, they seem happy when they can touch beaks and stuff. was just throwing the idea out there. i think it would help with the noise too santino, tweets fights with the girls he is not macking on. that means he will chase away the others and possibly hurting them. my sister still wants a bird but doesnt. i was thinking she can keep tweetles with her for a few days as a test run. but she keeps telling me my birds are noisy. so idk what to do. i cant get anymore birds and as how i feel right now, i do not want anymore

If your sister gripes about the noise level of your birds, then she probably doesn't really and truly want birds. Sometimes I think I want a dog (if Natey weren't terrified of them) and then I remember the many reasons I do not. Sometimes things seem much more romantic, fun, cuddly, or exciting than they are in real life and it's easy to forget about the negatives.
I'm so sorry you're struggling so much with your flock, Luvs.
