My closely bonded tiels pair must have got in an awful fight on Saturday. I got a call from Lauren that evening while I was at work saying peewee was bleeding uncontrollably and it wouldn't stop. Lauren knows about pressure and cornstarch but isn't as good with the hands-on stuff with our birdies. I reiterated to try flour and really putting pressure on the wound and it finally did stop. When I finally got off work and drove the hour home i was shocked because it looked like a murder scene with all the blood in the cage, towels, and counter. Peewee is my favorite but don't tell my other birds. What shocked me most is what a weenie I am when I thought about losing him. Deep down I am just a big sissy. He was very quiet and lethargic on sunday. We kept him warm and in the sunshine and now he is back to his loud wonderful self. Thanks for giving me a place to openly say how much of a wimp i am when it comes to my birdies.

Oh, that sounds like a terrible experience! Are you keeping them separate now? Any idea what caused the fight?

No idea what caused it. They are never more than a couple inches apart. They preen each other constantly. They even eat together at the food dish simultaneously. If I didn't know there was nothing in cage for him to cut his foot I would say it was cut some other way. We had them separated for a day but wouldn't stop going crazy wanting to be back together. We have them in a more portable cage and keeping them with us in whatever room we are in so can watch them closely. .

We're all softies when it comes to caring for our little ones. I think it's the farthest thing from wimpy in the world. It takes a strong, confident man to treat an animal (or a child) with gentleness and love.
Poor Peewee, and how scary for you and Lauren. It's a great idea to keep them portable and close so one of you can watch them every minute. Thanks for sharing your ordeal with us.

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear about this. Be sure to feed him some hard boiled egg or well cooked high quality meat over the next few days so that he can rebuild his blood supply and keep his immune system strong. Also, until the cut is completely gone, be sure to apply bactine or neosporin to it every day. Infection is a huge problem among caged birds with injuries.

He seems to be absolutely normal now. Him and Suki haven't even looked at each other strangely. I wonder if I'm missing something in the cage he could of hurt his foot on. I don't think so but I will pull everything out today before I move them from there smaller cage to their normal one. Thanks everyone for the concern.

What I have found about birds is that they forgive quickly (maybe forget too?).

Off topic. I love seeing my birdies in the banner. Lauren is going to look at a pair of quakers tomorrow for a very cheap price. I will start a new thread if she talks me into it. They are louder birds then I would like to have but I am always easily persuaded when it comes to birds.
