What do you do when you are away for 5 days or more? I was thinking of having someone come by on the 3rd day (if we are away for 5 days) to change the water and add more food.
But what types of water and food feeders would you recommend for keeping water or food clean for 2-3 days? I tried a water dispenser that hung from the outside of the cage and the bird has to lick a little ball but it leaked and I returned it. I'd like to have something for water that hangs from the outside I think. But what about the food? Do you have a favorite type of feeder? Right now, we have those simple plastic rectangular cups with a perch attached and we change the water and food daily.
Oh, the avian vet called yesterday to see how the birds are doing after their visit (!!!). I am supposed to take Santino in next week for one more shot but it looks good so far. <knock on wood!>

If I am away for more than a few days, I ask one of my family members to check my birds twice a day.

Do your birds eat pellets or seeds? The only issue with seeds is that there is no way to remove the hulls from the feeder and it will block fresh seeds from coming out. If you feed pellets, I don't think you have to worry about this. Water is important, and you would want one of the feeders you described. I had one that was on the outside and had like a tiny oval shaped well for the bird to get the water out of the vertical column, but seeds got into it and sprouted (of course when you don't want them to, lol) which made the water bad. Lucy also pooped in it today so you don't want one like this because it can get contaminated. I don't even think Lucy drinks from it really I think she just drinks from her water bowl

Pellets and veggies but they'd get only pellets while we are gone.

I really recommend hiring someone, a friend, family member or neighbor to check on the birds on a daily basis: I feel that it is not safe to leave the birds alone in the long term and I never do that myself. I suggest tube water feeders in general for cleanliness and volume. I use ones somewhat similar to this one: www.petco.com/product/110029/Clean-Water-Silo-Bird-Waterer.aspx

As the others said, it would be ideal if you could have someone over everyday, but unfortunately I know it isn't always possible (there were times where my budgies had to stay a few days alone and I couldn't do otherwise). Regarding food and drink, I always prefer to have them stuck outside of the cage so I have something similar to what Sarah sent for water in all 3 cages, and for food I have something similar to this but closes on top www.trixie.de/productimg/32654.jpg in one of the cages (which doesn't have one of those small doors for food). The seed hulls are usually soon on the floor with all their craziness inside the cage so the fresh food is soon uncovered. So I'd place a number of them with water and food in places in the cage where it's not so easy for them to dirty. I'm really impressed with your vet and extremely glad that the egg-laying is getting under control.

My family doesn't live close enough to have them stop by daily. I do have some friends who might be able to stop by so maybe I'd alternate/stagger the visits so the most they'd be alone is 1-1/2 days. I'm going to be gone maybe 5 nights at the most. Yes, I want to get feeders outside of the cage for water and pellets so that the birds don't get out by mistake. Thank you for the advice about getting multiple feeders!
I almost dropped to the floor to hear the voice message from the vet calling to follow-up! Santino got a lupron shot which is what women get for infertility treatments to control the release of eggs. Who knew?? I was really impressed to see him use a syringe with such a tiny needle to administer the shot into a little body. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will do the trick. The last resort would have to be a type of implant but it had only been done on a macaw...

The smaller the animal the smaller the needle

I have my in-laws watch our birds when we are away. However, I also don't fully trust anyone with the care of my precious babies. I leave an ungodly amount of seed/pellets, water and buy them new toys before they leave in case no one gives them any attention whatsoever. When you get back, make sure you treat them like kings and queens. I know my cockatiel shows me just how annoyed she is that I've been gone.
