I always feel it is touch-and-go getting the four birds back into the cage after their hour and a half morning fly around.
I put some millet in the cage this morning. Piper, Snowy and Silver went in and started eating it. Emma was perched up on top of the cage, looking like she was going to be stubborn.
I went over and held out my arm, like I do when I have sunflower seed She jumped on my wrist, and then, (drum roll, please) I was able to pop her into the cage and onto one of the upper perches! She then went down to eat millet with the other three.
My, how they love spray millet.

I understand that desire to hear a drumroll when something momentous has happened. Sure describes the feeling perfectly.

Drumroll is well deserved. I let our birds twice while the kids were at school but had to go out in between. They did not want to go back in. So I kept moving my hand towards them to make them lift off. After several times around, they got tired and resigned themselves to "inside". I forgot to tempt with millet. That always makes it easier . Cherry

That's a good deal! I can chase Emma that way for half an hour, and she doesn't get a bit tired LOL. In fact, I think she enjoys it in a stubborn way.

Your Emma is a big girl . I can greatly reduce the number of fly-arounds by holding a little piece of millet and they're usually so busy eating, that they forget that they're heading back inside. Yes, they can be stubborn. Today, I think I got Mondo after 5 or 6 attempts and Santino lasted another 3 - without millet.

Your progress with Emma makes me so happy! It really does. I'm so happy for you that it is all working out now. Cockatiels are wonderful pets (and budgies too of course)

I keep saying that my birds read my posts on the forum. Yesterday, I tried to get the birds back into the cage at midday, and Emma just wasn't having it. I could get one or two of them in at a time, but that's it. I took all their food away. After forty five minutes I tried with millet, but they still wouldn't go in. It took about two hours before they finally all went in. I kept putting the millet in, but them taking it out, because I needed all three to be hungry (Silver is more cooperative). If one of the budgies or Emma got satiated on the millet, they wouldn't have gone in again when the other was ready. I don't know what got into them.

Awwww, Thanks Emily!
I got Silver (the one in front) a month ago at a specialty bird store in Scarsdale, NY. I had been frustrated with not being able to tame Emma. who I got back in November from a pet store near where I live.
I was able to interact with the babies at the specialty shop, and selected Silver as the most friendly. He has been delightful (gender not certain, tho). Since he's been her Emma has been a wee bit more friendly.

Dianna, are you keeping Silver in the cage with the others now? Emma reminds me a bit of Pearl. She is stubborn and difficult to get back to the cage. I really need to try and do some training with her. She has a mind of her own and is very willful.
It is awesome how far you have come with Emma.

Roxhum, Yes, I was thinking that Pearl and Emma are similar. I, too, would like to make the time to do some systematic training. But, I never seem to get to it :-(.
