Hello everyone, as you may know, I was away for 3 days, I don't know what happened while I wasn't here, I got a friend coming twice everyday to check on the birds and feed them and stuff. Now I'm seeing that Leelo doesn't allow Poki to get near the babies, if they cry for food and Poki gets close to them, Leelo will jump right away and chase Poki trying to bite him until he's as far as possible from them, why could that be? Is there anything I could do to help with that? When I arrived last night I changed their water and Leelo bit me really really hard, I'm scared she might be hurting Poki

Separate Poki immediately, if Leelo doesnt keep feeding them then you may need to switch out the parents. that is a bummer

Leelo does feed them, she wants to be the only one doing it I think... I just don't know why she's being so mean towards Poki

Oh my poor Poki I unfortunately don't know enough about breeding to give any stable advice but maybe separating Poki so he isn't hurt? I'm not sure if that would effect the process of rearing young though.

the babies are today 24, 22 and 18 days old, the oldest chick started picking up seeds from the floor of the cage and today I put a little wood stick as perch almost on level ground because I saw him (let's pretend it's a he) yesterday trying to climb the walls of the cage to reach mommy and daddy, and right now I've been watching him for like 10 minutes and he's been able to stay on the perch for a while! He's being feed by Leelo, both on standing on the low perch (Poki is out on the playground because Leelo won't stop chasing and biting him )

hm, I would put Leelo in a separate cage because I believe right now the father teaches the birds how to fly and such. Hm, it sounds like she is chasing him because she doesn't want to breed?

You should take Leelo away. She is having a cow because her breeding hormones want her to nest again. She may turn on the babies at this age, so you should leave Poki with them and cage her separately for several weeks until she has gone out of breeding condition. You need to make sure she is sleeping a lot.
Poki will feed the babies, and make sure they learn to fly.

I was thinking the opposite, I thought she was chasing him because he wants to breed and she doesn't, her cere is completely white now, I had never seen her this aggresive before :/ I put her out of the cage for a moment so Poki can be with the babies and eat and drink water witout having Leelo scaring him, I guess I'm gonna leave them like that for a few weeks... Thank you so much for the advice, girls, I'll keep an eye on the babies and make sure they are having fun with daddy and Leelo, well, I hope she enjoys her long nights from now on haha

Poor Leelo! Maybe it's postpartum depression. Have she and Poki raised babies in the past?

I do agree that it could very easily be that she wants to breed again. When my other budgies were breeding unfortunately I didn't know any better and didn't do the necessary research - the mother ended up killing most of her little ones as soon as they started going in and out of the nest to be able to keep the nest for herself to prepare for another clutch (which she in fact did have)..
Btw, did I tell you!?! They're sososoooo cute!!
