I let the birds out this morning. They did some flying around. I went to change their water bottle and I noticed it had blood on it. There were also drops of blood on the bars on top of the cage.
I tried to figure out which bird was bleeding. At first it was hard to tell. I picked each of them up on my finger and looked underneath (except for Emma, who can't be picked up). I didn't see anything.
Then, I picked up Silver up with my palm over his wings, turned him upside down, and spread each wing out. He struggled quite a bit, but didn't bite hard. I saw quite a bit of blood under one of his wings. I got some flour, because I don't have quick stop. My brother helped me put it on the feathers under his wing. I couldn't see anything that looked like a blood feather. It was hard to get him to stay still enough to look in detail.
I put him back in the cage and put white paper on the bottom of it, so I could see if there was any more blood. There hasn't been any.
Later, I found a large feather on the floor that had a bit of blood on the base. I am thinking that the feather may have come out (who knows why) and the spot where it was attached bled.
Anyway, there were quite a few drops of blood, so I was very concerned. But, everything seems to be okay now.
It got me thinking, though, about what I would do if it was one of the other birds. They are impossible to get hold of. Emma, of course, is the worst. If she broke a blood feather, I am afraid she might die, because it is impossible for me to capture her :-(.
I was happy that Silver didn't seem to be mad at me or to avoid me after I had to hold him for the procedure.
