I went to a different pet store today. It is in a different town from where I live and I knew they had a lot of birds. They had some breeding pairs and lots of different types of birds. Turns out they have several budgies that they are hand feeding. They had a white baby, a solid yellow and a multi colored yellow and a blue. I think the blue one may be a boy. Hand fed budgies, oh my! Should I get the blue one? They were so sweet. They cost $50.

$50 is pricy for a hand fed budgie. I bought Orion (he was hand fed) for $14.

I don't think handfed budgies come along every day. If you want one, go for it. My only reservation is why you let the previous budgies go (to your son, i think?) Did it have to do with the noise?
My budgies are very noisy, especially when I am watching TV. Sometimes I think of putting them in their own cage, out of the living room. Then, I look at how well the four birds get along, and I think I don't have the heart to separate them..

Budgies at the our local pet store cost close to $20.00 so I suspect the hand fed ones could fetch quite a bit more as raising a baby is so labor intensive.

To me, $50 does not sound outrageous for a hand tame baby. Hand tame is the difference between simply meeting an animals needs and truly being a companion pet. If you WANT him, go for it! If you feel as though you just don't have time for another clingy bird who wants you a whole lot, then heave a big sigh and walk away.
Diana, I completely understand your feelings about considering moving your budgies into another room, and then not having the heart to do it.

Hi all, I have been busy with work and fun family activities this weekend.
I can be quite impulsive and I always thought to myself that if I ever found a hand fed budgie.... I don't think they are all that common. But alas, retirement is on the horizon and downsizing, and finding time for what I already have. Common sense has kicked in. All this delightful budgie would do is take time away from the two lovely cockatiels I already have.
Yesterday we had a family dinner at my house and my grand daughter wanted oh so badly to handle Sweetie Pie. My compliant Sweetie was having nothing to do with that. I had to explain to my grand daughter how if she said no over and over that we would respect her request and therefore it would be unkind to continue trying to get Sweetie to interact with her when she so clearly didn't want that. We will try another day when the house is quieter. Meanwhile I was surprised how quiet Pearl was. Usually when the house is chaotic she joins in by calling. Yesterday she was quiet as a mouse. Maybe she didn't want to draw attention to herself. Pearl also is getting way to comfortable with the dogs. We were all on my bed and she walks past them and over them. They ignore her but it still makes me nervous. I was there and monitoring the situation very closely but all it would take is one sleeping dog to get startled and snap.

I am sure you made the best decision. I worry about my birds and my cats also. I so want everyone to be happy.
