How sweet! When our birds window sit,.they like to nibble at the wood as well, so our window edges are covered with wax paper and a playground contraption for them to sit on.

Cherry Thankfully, our windows are newer and are vinyl so I don't need to worry about them eating the wood. Faith's bed is close there, and they also perch on the ladder and sun themselves. Love the idea of a playground contraption in front of it, do you have any pictures?

I am so sad to tell you all this, but our sweet little Jems/Jemma is no more. I had gotten very sick with an asthma attack due to a 5 acre brush fire at the end of our street, and the little bird didn't get a lot of attention. I got to feeling better, and took the little guy out of the cage for some 1:1 love. Sadly, he got spooked and jumped out of my hand to the floor. I didn't realize my dogs were in the house....I was able to grab the first dog by the collar in time, but the littler one snuck underneath and picked the bird up. He dropped it without drawing any blood, but the poor bird died. I think of fright. I am positively SICK just thinking about it, and have cried for days. Telling Faith about it was the worst! She has been putting in long hours at school doing a play, and wasn't home much to love on the birds, hence my choice to step in.
I have promised Faith a new bird. We are looking for one that is closer to Twitter's age, hoping that a few more months will put some strength in the bird and hopefully have a mating pair. We think we've found a very nice male, but of course I am a little nervous to get another bird. We surely haven't done well, as 1 had a bad personality and 2 died suddenly. I'm not sure what Twitter thinks about all these changes. She's kind of bossy anyway, but are we making this worse?
Thanks for a listening ear. and any advice would be fabulous.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I felt the same way when Seuss died. I don't know what to do in this situation because the only dog in my life is scared of my birds. Maybe go into a bedroom and shut the door between you and the dogs?

Maybe go into a bedroom and shut the door between you and the dogs? We do normally have the birds in Faith's room, door closed if the cage is open. However, it has been unseasonably hot and we felt like a place less stuffy would feel better, and give me some company while I was sick. Our dog are a labrador mix and a schipperke mix, which are both hunters by nature. We have large crows that tease the dogs outside all the time, so what they did was natural for them. Really, I should have made sure they were outside.

oh no, that is horrible. Does it seem like Twitter is depressed? It's hard to tell with Twitter. She seems OK, but sadly has gone through this before so i'm not sure if she's just waiting to see what happens or steeling herself for another change. We keep checking on her. playing music she loves, etc. She seems to be eating OK and is singing along to her favorite songs.

Aww, how sad. I'm sorry you have to deal with another loss.
One thing you might try is putting something on the cage door that will make it just a little bit difficult to open the cage, like a bag clip or something. This way, when you reach to undo the clip, you can remind yourself that you've got to check to make sure the dogs are closed out before following thru with opening the cage.
