Hi, I need some advice please. My little boy has about 15 tough weathers coming up in his forehead - they appear to be bleeding and the feathers are really strong and tough to touch. It looks as though his forehead is red with blood.
I was away from him for a couple of weeks and he was staying with my girlfriend who has two female paralets - Not sure whether it is the hormones, or moulting as to the reason of why these harsh feathers have appeared.
Thanks, Sandra

Hi, Sandra,
New feathers would not be bloody. Did the three birds share a cage while you were away or did they have a chance to come in contact with each other, even through the bars? Would it have been possible for your friend's birds to have gotten in a fight with your bird? (Or was he so terrified that he injured himself trying to get away?) Can you post a photo?

insert code here They had their own cages but they all played together....and they seemed to get on well. My birdie is himself and is happy as can be. Will post a photo tomorrow night as he is now sleeping....these feathers that have appeared don't look or feel normal. They are like strong needles growing out of his head. Thanks so much for your response.

Those do sound like pin feathers or new feathers sprouting from his head, Sandra, but the excessive blood seems unusual. Maybe the little guy has particularly sensitive skin? Try to keep him as comfy as possible, and maybe an extra treat here and there would help him feel better. How is he today?
