The fishes you named are all considered semi-aggressive. The good thing about that is that they should live pretty well together. You just don't want to combine peaceful community with semi aggressive or worse yet, full on aggressive fishes! But I know you already know that. People who keep cichlids generally keep only cichlids - at least in the cichlid tank. I think it would be fun to have a cichlid tank, but I just don't have room for a second fish tank. I also really love plain old goldfish. They are very friendly fish and seem to actually care a little about their humans, meaning they come up to the glass and look happy to see you. Goldies also get nice and big, but they do poop a lot. But well, peacefully community is what I have chosen, and one tank is it for me. I do have grand plans of saving up and eventually upgrading to a much larger tank. It's so fun to imagine my fishes' reaction to moving into a home triple the size they've been accustomed to. Thank you, Lisa, for your sweet compliment.

Your fish tank is really beautiful.
I had tropical fish when I was a teenager. I had guppies, swordfish, platties, and mollies. Also, zebras, angelfish, and neon tetras. Once I had an angelfish that developed "swim bladder disease." He turned upside down and was swimming around that way. It kind of freaked me out. After that, I couldn't have any more angelfish. I had two ten gallon tanks.
At this point, I just don't think I could keep up with a fish tank.
It looks like you have all real plants in your tank. I remember it being kind of hard to keep the plants growing. Also, I had incadescent lights for my tanks (because I couldn't afford fluorescent). They made the tank hot and caused the algae to over grow. It was hard to keep the tanks clean. I remember siphoning out the bottom part of the tank.
I had a friend who lived across the street from me. We both had a budgie and we both had tropical fish. It was so nice that we shared that interest. She was such a sweet friend.

Diana, when I was away at school I was breeding platties. It was a fun experience! I had so many babies, but then I went home for Christmas break... And I think we can predict how that ended. Even though I left a feeder cube.
Pammy, I have to upload a video of my goldfish. They LOVE attention. Attention = food. They do a "hungry dance" maybe I can record it right now!

Thanks, Diana. I actually have a mix of plastic plants and live plants. Most are artificial. After a time, algae grows on the fake ones and they take on a more real look. I feel happy that I do have a few live plants. It makes me feel as though I am doing right by my fish.
I do siphon the crud from the bottom of my tank every 10 days or so. I have a hose apparatus that attaches to my kitchen sink faucet and makes it a breeze. No more bucket brigade! My tank is waaaayyyy overstocked with fish, but the regular water changes make that okay. Also, I have 17 cories and 9 clown loaches who spend their days vacuuming. My tank is work, but for me, the pleasure far outweighs the workload.

Cleaning the tank is always such a complicated process. At least for me it is!

Oh Lisa, that video really made me miss having goldies! So cute!! How do you keep your pebbles looking so pink with no algae growing on them?

I don't know! Everything in my tank kept such nice colors. I think it was probably because of the algae eater. They really are awesome little things. Right now I don't have one because the replacement I bought died but I think they did because they don't have enough to eat. Next time I'll have to give pellets to them

I have two big Plecos and one Siamese algae eater, put they don't keep everything picked clean. Of course I do give them the wafers and they also eat pellets and flakes with the other fishes at feeding time. I'm really shocked about the pebbles.

My grandma has a cattle stop full of gold fish and once she looked after a friends angel fish in there and then some of her goldfish started to look like gold angelfish
