Guys!! How are you all? I've been checking the forum for new threads more than once a week, never seeing anything and telling myself that I should post myself. Today I have an update to give you and came again, only to find out that I was not signed in and that's why I never saw any of your posts! I'm really really really sorry! I promise I'll see them all after work! In the meantime, a very short summary on my part, Smurf laid an egg today!!!! They've all been fighting sooooo much lately (yep I still have 4 females and a lonely male - Tequila - or at least we had all decided he's probably male) so I've been separating them for the night (latest has been Skittles in a cage, Smurf in another and Tequila, Sky and Kermit in another). This morning I find an egg at the bottom of Smurf's cage (she's bonded with Tequila). I placed the egg in a nest and placed Tequila near her again. Will give you a mlre detailes update after work if you want (with pictures )

Oh boy, that is one lucky male, LOL! It's like polygamy budgie style.
Back to seriousness, that's so exciting that Smurf laid an egg. Let us know what happens!

Thanks guys So I'll try to give you a detailed update asap, but in the meantime I kinda need some help. I know these details have been posted like a thousand times but I can't seem to find them.. 1) How much sleep should they be getting now that Smurf laid an egg? (They were getting 14hrs - yep smurf still laid an egg with 14hrs of sleep) 2) Should I be leaving part of their cage covered during the day? 3) Should I place bedding now or only if the egg(s) hatch? If so, what kind of bedding? 4) Could I be missing something essential? Thanks

I would try 16 hours. I would cover all of it unless you have a heated blanket. Are you want it to hatch? Do you want them to breed? If so, I would separate the layer and the male into their own cage, set up a nest box.. etc. Do you have cuttle bone and mineral block?

Thanks luvs! How are you and your flock? 16 hours is quite difficult, but I'll try my best. Smurf is staying inside the nest most of the time but hasn't laid another egg yet. I placed unsented pine shavings in the nest today, but she threw most of it out. I wasn't planning on having more little fellows, but now that she laid an egg I'm kinda wishing to have new additions (even if it means getting more males for my other females and letting them breed as well. Smurf and Tequila are currently in a cage for themselves (not with the others). And yes they have minaral blocks and a cuttlefish bone. Smurf is using the cuttlefish bone

Np. I would try any time you have. I was just throwing that out there. I am not quite sure on that though. If you want her to breed then they need more daylight hours. Majority of the time, females do that, just keep adding them lol I do not have a flock right now. Well, is it possible to separate the females and males? That will most likely deter any mating.

Oh so sorry to hear that.
No wait I think I wasn't clear sorry. I've got my male and a female in a cage together and I'm now encouraging them to breed. My other 3 girls are alone without a male. So my questions are now related to what should I do to encourage them to mate, try to avoid egg binding and to hopefully have little baby budgies.
