Chicks can sometimes be rejected for seemingly no reason, even in small clutches. Breeders tend to assume that it may be sickly or that the mother thinks it may be too small or weak to make it. Hand feeding can get a baby like this over the hump, and sometimes the chick will be accepted by the mother when it is larger and more strong.
They are super adorable and beautiful. Good luck with them!

Baby No.3 is doing well. Has been feed after the other two babies had there feed. Because the other two are a lot bigger they will be a lot more demanding for food so will get feed first. Happy clutch of 3 :-)

Yes the beding is pine shavings. Have always used this beding in my nest boxes and when I have hand reared the babies :-)

Look at how different they are in size! Thank you for sharing. Do you take the lid off daily to check? Where is the nest box inside the cage? Does it just sit at the bottom or is it hanging off an opening?

Does it just sit at the bottom or is it hanging off an opening? Cherry Hi Cherry, I made my own breeding cages, they are in my aviary outside. My breeding boxes are mounted at the top, and to the side of each cage. (Budgies like there breeding boxes to be high to feel safer) They have a sliding door that slides to the side to open. I check on them every day, the parents hop out of the box when i check, then hop back in when im finished

I like how you designed your nesting boxes to have sliding access doors. Very clever. Did you buy the metal sides all pre-made?

I bought the wire fronts and matal pull out trays in a second hand lot of 20. I then measured and made the cage out of ply wood and painted them white. I have only made one double cage so far, but my plan is to make more for myself and make some to sell
