I'm so glad she is doing better and her feathers are beginning to grow back in. Thanks for updating us.

Very happy to hear the news!! I've never heard of a budgie who plucked themselves, so I was very concerned for your situation. I'm so happy it worked out!

Very happy to hear the news!! I've never heard of a budgie who plucked themselves, so I was very concerned for your situation. I'm so happy it worked out! Don't jump to conclusions, you might jinx it! But it does seem like whatever it was has passed. Wish I had any idea what it was. Her feathers are about 3/4 or 4/5 of the way back. Oh and news , I've been mixing seeds and pellets this whole time, and this morning since i had more time I put pellets only in to see what they would do, and they fussed at me for a bit but now they are chowing down on pellets. Hurray! I trimmed the long or looped bits of hay off of the male's toy he got snagged in, and put it back in the cage. He has resumed loving his favorite toy. As he unravels it I'm going to keep snipping any long bits he manages to pull out.

I don't know what is going on but there were some feathers on the ground when i got home yesterday, my mom said she thought she saw plucking. I did see one deliberate pluck of a feather around her legs, but none of her chest and belly area like last time. I'm more than a little anxious to see what today brings.

Maybe you should remove that toy again. Perhaps it is a bad memory or something. I know it doesn't seem logics, but if she seemed to have stopped and now she may have started again, maybe it is a problem.

I have seen some comments elsewhere about Harrison's pellets being very good and possibly helping with feather plucking. Nothing scientific, just personal observations. I decided to order some for my birds. Just thought I'd pass it along, for what it may be worth.

Diana, I look forward to your report on the Harrison's. What brand seeds do you buy? Have you found one that seems to have higher quality and more natural ingredients?

The Harrison's is reputed to have organic ingredients. I only ordered 1 pound, as I want to see if the birds take to it. As far as seeds, I have been giving them KayTee. I haven't really analyzed the ingredients in different seed mixes. I have read that the mix should have a high proportion of "canary seeds". I originally thought that means you should get seeds labeled for canaries, but, not so! "Canary seed" is a type of seed, and is not necessarily related to canary the bird LOL.

I do know to look for seed mixes that are rather drab in color. Those pretty, colorful fake pieces aren't that healthy and can cause bird poop to stain your clothes, furniture and carpet. I didn't know to look for a high percentage of canary seed. Thanks for pointing that out.

The man where Leo was from said KayTee was a bad brand. I bragged like a proud mama that Lucy enjoyed KayTee brand pellets and he said they're very poor in nutrition. Now that i saw he's more business oriented, I'm not sure how true/false that is. Lucy does love ZuPreen! I bought her some and she absolutely loves it!

I have also read that kaytee is not a good brand. I don't think that's as crucial for seeds as it is for pellets. Has anybody heard anything about Brown's being a decent product?
