Last night as far as I could see there was nothing wrong with the birds. I didn't look before leaving for work this morning, it was a pretty rushed morning. My mother called me and asked if i knew that the green one was missing a bunch of it's chest feathers.
I was reading that there can be a number of causes, nutrition, stress, etc. I will have to wait until i get home to find out more. Any ideas?

Oh no! I don't know much about feather plucking, but have heard that two causes are stress and boredom. Since your birds have one another, a big cage, and plenty of toys, I'd say it's not boredom - unless they are ignored most of the time. I'm sure fellow members will know more about this behavior than I do. Please let us know how things are after work....

If it is nutrition this might be a good time to discuss what pellet food you all recommend, and how you transition seed addicts to pellets. I've never successfully gotten them to eat one lousy thing besides seeds. I've offered fresh fruit until i gave up trying, i didn't want ot leave it in the cage where it could be forgotten about, since i work they get their food in the morning usually before i leave, so fruit can't sit for 9ish hours or more. There is dried fruit and all kinds of goodies in their expensive parakeet food, but they WILL NOT eat it. Even if they've picked out every seed from inbetween and all that is left is the other stuff.

I got Lucky on the crumbles and at first mixed with seeds. Now she eats them on her own.

I use Roudybush crumbles, and my budgies easily made the switch. They like them.

roudybush is the brand?
{EDIT} Oh and yes i have two cuttlebones, one regular and one of the flavored mineral enhanced cuttlebones. I also have an ediperch that is supposed to be vitamin fortified ground seeds with honey that they can gnaw on while they sit on it. I've only seen them lick it though.

Don't ask me why I feel the need to do something different than you guys but i ordered the nibles size of roudybush instead of crumbles, 44oz bag, off of amazon, with amazon prime 2 day shipping. Should i try mixing with seeds at first or just put em in there and see if they eat it?

I just got home..... The horror. I fed her some millet by hand, and refilled her favorite feeder and she went over and ate out of it. I can't tell if she's preening now or continuing to pluck. For the love of god how do i stop this.

Self. The other one seems distraught that it is happening and is staying right next to the one that's plucking like it's trying to comfort them.
