So even though I have a mini night light set up on top of the birds' cage, both birds each broke a wing during a night terror in the middle of the night.
What do you do for a broken wing?

How do you know the wing is broken? Sounds like a vet visit would be required.

I made an appointment, but it isn't until later this afternoon. Both birds have their wing hanging at an odd angle.

Both birds went to the vet, and the good news is their wings aren't broken. They're just strained. The vet examined them and he says the reason they're hanging at odd angles is probably because the birds hurt and don't want to move them too much. He said keep them in the small cage and don't let them fly or run around. Basically they're on cage rest for a week.

Both have gone through their first molt though. Shasta's molted a few times. I know it's caused from them freaking out in the middle of the night.

I am glad their wings aren't broken. What do you think is making them freak out at night?

I'm not entirely sure. I have a mini light that Shasta knows how to turn on if they want light. My guess is it was off and Shasta turned it on and freaked out Orion, so both birds freaked out. No idea.

Do you think you should remove the light and just cover them up at night so their cage can be dark/quiet. Or if you don't want to cover their cage you can use a night light instead.

I'll have to figure out something to do. Both birds were fine last night.

You know those lights that are round, or they have the heart and diamond and star shaped ones at the dollar stores now? This isn't my image! I got one of those dollar store ones and removed the spring from the one side and taught him how to turn it on and off. (He likes it so much I go through like 2 AAA batteries a week) I have noticed he feels comforted by it when he doesn't want the dark, or if he's bored, it entertains him.
